Jimmy Renfrew, Jr. dominated the Milton CAT American-Canadian Tour Oxford 125 on Saturday night, earning his fourth career win with the series.
Renfrew started third and took the lead by the end of the second lap. The New Hampshire native did not relinquish the lead the rest of the way, picking up the ACT victory on the eve of the 52nd Annual All That's Metal Oxford 250.
After finishing third in Friday night's Yvon Bedard 109 for ACT competitors, Renfrew knew his car was strong enough to compete for the win on Saturday.
"We were really good last night," said Renfrew. "I thought we had a shot. I promised these guys we'd make it a little bit better, come back tonight and get us one, so that's what we came out and did."
Like several others in the field, Renfrew is competing in four races over three nights at Oxford Plains, with the ACT doubleheader accompanying the Sunoco 150 and Oxford 250 for Super Late Model teams.
With a win in his pocket, Renfrew's focus now turns solely to Sunday's crown jewel.
"Just can't thank all these guys enough. They busted their butts all weekend long on both cars. The PASS car, we finished sixth with that. Made it a little bit better today. We'll see what happens tomorrow for the 250. The more laps, the better here, and this obviously helps going into tomorrow."
While Renfrew took the win, Raphael Lessard drove from 10th to second to assist in his chase for the Milton CAT American-Canadian Tour championship. Lessons learned in Friday night's race helped Lessard improve on his 17th-place result from a night ago.
"Yesterday was our first time here with this car," said Lessard. "I burned my stuff up pretty bad driving up to fourth. At the end, we just struggled, really, really bad. Today it was a way different car. A lot better, but we struggled on long run again. The caution played out perfectly for us. Finishing second at Oxford is like a win for Larue Motorsports and I."
Erick Sands finished third in the contest. Sands was in the mix and battling for the lead late in the race, but lost out on the second spot to Lessard on the final lap.
That didn't stop Sands from thanking Lessard for an assist of sorts earlier in the day.
"I've got to thank Raphael, because he gave me the special sauce before the race," said Sands. "That whole XPN stuff? It really gets your heart pumping. I've got to thank my whole crew that showed up tonight. Thanks to Jimmy for running me clean on that last couple of laps there."
Gabe Brown finished fourth, with Derek Gluchacki rounding out the top five.
