Aug 17, 2025
Gabe Brown fought both a stout field of Milton CAT American-Canadian Tour competitors and his own race car to take the win in the Yvon Bedard 109.
Brown battled an ill-handling race car with an apparent issue in the rear-end of his No. 47, but held off the likes of Derek Gluchacki and Jimmy Renfrew, Jr. for the victory.
"I don't know what was wrong with this thing," said Brown in victory lane. "Something in the rear end was coming apart big time. It was hiking up wicked and making it bottom out like hell. I just had to lock it on the bottom and let them fight it out behind me and hope they didn't get under me."
There were some tense moments along the way, but ultimately Brown held on for the victory to kick off Oxford 250 weekend.
"Huge thank you to Jimmy for cutting me a break there off turn two," said Brown. "I know he probably could have done some things to me there and I really appreciate that he didn't. How about these Dale Shaw Race Cars out here? Looking good again on 250 weekend, two of the top three.Hopefully, this moves on to tomorrow and Sunday."
"It's crazy how much work goes into these. We've had a lot of parts failure this year. They're just things that you can't catch. It put us out of the championship hunt, really. I said to those guys on the second caution, something's breaking, I think I should pull it in. My guys said nope, we're here to win races now, not championships. We stuck it out until it broke, and it held on."
Derek Gluchacki used one of his "Wildcards" towards the 2025 Kulwicki Driver Development Program on Friday's race, earning him double points in the battle for the Kulwicki Cup. Gluchacki cashed in a runner-up finish for that Wildcard.
"Just a really good car out of the trailer," said Gluchacki. "I think we've got what we need here, just needed some track position there.
'Shoutout to Ryan Zeck and Joe from the Kulwicki Program, they're here tonight, so that's super awesome to have a good run in front of them. I'm just super thankful to be here and for this run."
Renfrew finished third, the second Dale Shaw Race Car on the podium. With another ACT feature on Saturday, Renfrew hopes better starting position tomorrow can help him find victory lane.
"I just didn't have the track position there," said Renfrew. "I felt like we had a shot to win before that last yellow. I thought we were a little better than the 47, but I didn't want to move him for the win. I just didn't have enough on those restarts. It tried to build some momentum, but just didn't quite have enough. Luckily, we can work on it a little bit and come back tomorrow and try to get us one.
"I think a little bit better starting position and we might have a shot. Congrats to Gabe. I didn't want to move him out of the way to win, Thanksgiving's coming up and I'm probably gonna have to sit next to him."
