Between a late-race charge in the season-opener at Sebring International Raceway in March and a last-corner pass in Saturday’s event at Road America, John Atwell (No. 02 XRC / DFW Concrete / A&J Lab Portal Ford Mustang) has done an amazing job at finding ways to keep viewers engaged for every single lap of the TA Sprint Championship in 2026.

Atwell was the center of attention once again on Sunday, in the second leg of a TA Sprint Championship doubleheader at Road America, but for a different reason: total dominance.

After setting the fastest lap in the first TA Sprint event of the weekend, Atwell started from the pole position, and only lost the lead once, albeit briefly, to Jim Gallaugher on the first lap of the race. The driver of the No. 02 quickly returned to the top spot, though, and began pulling away from the pack. At one point, the gap between Atwell and Gallaugher was in excess of eight seconds.

In the final laps of the race, Atwell, with a healthy lead, took it easy, and Gallaugher tried to close in for the lead, getting within 3.5 seconds of the lead, but had to settle for second. Bruce Raymond was third, with Naz Olkhovskyi and Rob Kacprowicz rounding out the top-five.

Jim Guthrie was running near the front of the field during the opening lap of the race but suffered some kind of issue to his No. 8 Guthrie’s Garage / SLR-M1 Racecars Chevrolet Camaro, which forced the TA Cup championship contender to retire from the event early, finishing sixth.

Brad McAllister, the closest competition to Atwell on Saturday, was unable to start the 13-lap event on Sunday, along with Christina Lam and Tim Carroll. They were credited with finishes of seventh through ninth.
