Ryan Litt continued his dominant trend at Berlin Raceway in Must See Sprint competition on Saturday night, winning the summer event at the Michigan facility for the fourth straight year.
Litt dominated the 30-lap feature, taking his sixth career Must See win and his second of the season. Litt won earlier this year at Kalamazoo Speedway, and now holds his fourth Berlin triumph.
To take the win, Litt had to outduel Bobby Santos, III on a late restart, who was seeking his third Must See win of the season and finished ahead of Litt in the season opener at Berlin. With lessons learned from that night in May, Litt was more assertive in his battle this time around.
"[Santos] is probably, right now, the best pavement Sprint Car driver in America," said Litt. When he's up next to you, you've got to be on your game. At the start, I was kind of leaning towards saving my equipment a little bit for the end, because he kind of snookered me last time we were here. I burned my stuff up and got caught in lapped traffic, and he got me.
"The car was set up good, it had tons of grip, so I just pretty much went full send there at the end. I tried to go as hard as I could."
Litt also experienced a scare in the closing laps, with his No. 07 losing steam as he looked for the checkered flag.
"Luckily, the car held on. It sounded like it might have dropped a cylinder there at the end. I was getting oil all over my visor and stuff, so I was just hoping and praying I was gonna make the checkered flag there."
"I think if it's up to me, we cancel that spring race and keep coming back in August."
Santos finished second, tipping his cap to Litt on his race management and bettering him on the restart.
"I didn't do a good job on the restart," said Santos. "Ryan did a better job than I did. I kind of used it up trying to run outside of him there for four or five laps, and I wish I handled the situation a little different. Ryan did a better job tonight. Those guys did a good job."
Joe Liguori added to his Must See Racing points lead with a third-place finish, but acknowledged he still has work left to do to chase down Litt and Santos when they visit the Sprint Car series.
"Quite honestly, you come to this racetrack and the 07 and the 22 are here, you're running for third," said Liguori. "Those guys have this place figured out. I wish we could be a little bit better. We were third here last time, third here again. We were a little bit better this time than we were last time, just still not good enough. At least I could see them this time.
"No big deal, we'll take this third place. It still pays good to run third, and that's what we're looking at. I think we're coming out of here with a big points lead now. I guess we're going to start looking at points, a couple of races left to go in this thing."
Kevin Mingus finished fourth, with Dorman Snyder rounding out the top five.
Next on the schedule for the Must See Racing Sprint Cars is a doubleheader weekend at Owosso Speedway on August 30-31. Must See's Midwest Lights will also make the trip to Owosso for the weekend.
