D.J. Shaw won the Oxford Championship Series' 100-lap Super Late Model feature on Saturday evening, a race which also serves as a qualifier for the All That's Metal Oxford 250 on August 22-24.
D.J. Shaw's weekend at Oxford Plains Speedway started with a big win, and now comes with a tough decision.
Shaw won the Oxford Championship Series' 100-lap Super Late Model feature on Saturday evening, a race which also serves as a qualifier for the All That's Metal Oxford 250 on August 22-24. Should he need it, Shaw now holds a provisional starting spot in the lineup for the biggest event of the year at the Maine facility later this month.
However, Shaw also has a brand new race car prepared for the Oxford 250, one he planned to debut Sunday afternoon when the Pro All Stars Series does battle at Oxford Plains on day two of a doubleheader weekend.
Shaw wasn't about to let that get in the way of celebrating a win at Oxford Plains Speedway. He has won four times in PASS competition at the track, but the most recent of those victories came in 2022.
"It's always fun to stand in victory lane at Oxford, period," said Shaw. "It's been a few years, so it feels good to get back."
Now, however, it is decision time for Shaw, who will have to choose between the new car that sat on the trailer Saturday night or the car he just drove to victory lane.
"I don't even really know, to be honest with you," said Shaw. "This was not the car we were planning on running [at the Oxford 250]. It's not the car we were planning on running tomorrow. Plans have changed on tomorrow, I think. It's a good, hard decision. It wasn't a bad thing.
"There's another one back there that we were planning on running tomorrow, a brand new one we were gonna debut. It's hard to put this [car] in the trailer."
Shaw took the lead from Evan Roy on lap 16, and held the top spot the rest of the way in the 100-lap feature. He crossed the finish line nearly five seconds ahead of runner-up Austin Teras after a long green flag run to end the event.
"D.J. did a phenomenal job of managing his race and managing his tires," said Teras. "I mean, it's awesome to race D.J. I got really loose there. I don't really know why. We've got a good stepping stone to tomorrow, a little bit of work, but maybe we can go race D.J. tomorrow if we work a little harder."
Trevor Sanborn, last year's Super Late Model track champion at Oxford Plains, rounded out the podium in his No. 44T.
"It's a real good night for this car here," said Sanborn. "This car, we haven't had much luck with at Oxford. We made a lot of changes and clearly made some headway. I've got to thank Richard Moody for putting me in this ride and taking care of us."
The PASS Super Late Models battle on Sunday in the Stearns & Daughters 150 at Oxford Plains. PASS Modifieds and NELCAR Legends and Bandoleros will also be in action. Fans can watch Sunday's racing live on RacingAmerica.TV, with post time at 3 p.m. ET.
