Shane van Gisbergen and Trackhouse Racing announced on Friday afternoon they have reached a multiyear contract extension.
The Auckland, New Zealand native has won four NASCAR Cup Series races with Trackhouse, including three this year, in just 37 career races. The three-time champion in the Repco Supercars Championship will now remain at Trackhouse Racing long-term.
“I feel like Trackhouse Racing is my home,” said van Gisbergen. “Trackhouse gave me the opportunity to race at Chicago in 2023. That was just a one-race deal, and everything that has happened since then is because of the chance Justin (Marks, Trackhouse founder and owner) took on me. The men and women at Trackhouse have helped me feel at home in this new challenge, and I've been loving every minute of it. We still have a lot of work to do, but I couldn't be happier."
Van Gisbergen’s first opportunity with Trackhouse came in 2023 at the inaugural Chicago Street Race, when he piloted the PROJECT91 entry created in 2022. PROJECT91 started with the purpose of expanding Trackhouse’s reach by fielding entries for accomplished international racing drivers.
“SVG” proved up to the task, winning in his debut at Chicago and paving the way for a move full-time to the NASCAR Cup series. After signing a development deal with Trackhouse, Van Gisbergen spent 2024 racing with Kaulig Racing in the NASCAR Xfinity Series. He won three races in that series one year ago, with victories at Portland International Raceway, Sonoma Raceway and Chicago.
With Trackhouse expanding to a three-car Cup Series team in 2025, Van Gisbergen made the jump behind the wheel of the No. 88 Chevrolet. During his rookie full-time Cup Series season, he has won at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, Chicago and Sonoma.
"We are getting to watch one of the superstars of racing," said Marks. "What we are asking him to do carries a high degree of difficulty. He's moved to the other side of the world, learned a new form of racing and at times dominated the competition. He's one of the greatest."
Trackhouse Racing has won 12 NASCAR Cup Series events since joining the NASCAR Cup Series in 2021. Four of those have come this year, between Van Gisbergen’s three victories and Ross Chastain’s win in the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Van Gisbergen will hunt for a fourth consecutive win on the road courses this weekend in the Go Bowling at The Glen at Watkins Glen International. The event takes the green flag at 2:00 p.m. ET on Sunday, August 10, with coverage on the USA Network, the Motor Racing Network and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
