Dan Leeck Perseveres Through Chaos for Victory in Owosso 500 Opener
May 18, 2025
White Mountain Motorsports Park fans, drivers and officials did their best to fight off the rainy forecast on Saturday to kick off the 33rd season of Thunder in the Mountains with the help of HK Powersports. Eighty-five cars packed in for Saturday morning’s car show before practicing the afternoon away on the North Woodstock highbanks.
After completing qualifying for all six divisions on site, the Fisher Auto Parts Flying Tigers took center stage for the first round in the Central Asphalt Paving Triple Crown and the ACT Tri-State Series. Multi-time White Mountain track champion Shane Sicard brought the 75-lap affair to green with a ‘+4’ handicap but fought hard with Eric Messier from the get-go. The two-man show quickly saw Logan Powers and Jason Woodard join the fight out front.
Woodard and Powers quickly became the show, battling and bouncing for the lead position lap after lap through the middle portion of their extra-distance feature event. The lap 40 restart gave Woodard the edge as he maintained the lead through two more caution cycles all the way to the winner’s circle. Jason Woodard marks a strong start to the 2025 season with Sam Caron coming up through from 12th on the grid to finish second and Logan Powers hanging on for third.
While the Dad’s 4 By Tool & Supply Kid’s Division was on the track, rains finally set in and soaked the White Mountain Motorsports Park property to end the night with an added lightning threat in the area. While officials will release more information this week, the 1764 Sports Bar & Grill Late Models will run their make-up feature from HK Powersports opening day on Saturday, May 31.
After several late discussions Saturday evening with both the Pro All Stars Series and NELCAR Tour, officials are jointly postponing tomorrow’s planned PASS Spectacular as well with inclement weather continuing to be forecasted for Sunday. The planned program on Sunday, May 18 has been postponed and officials will discuss this week any rescheduling plans.
White Mountain Motorsports Park is back in action for the 7th annual Spring Board 100 on Saturday, May 24 headlined as the first event in the Wall’s Ford Platinum Late Model Series! New Hampshire’s Favorite Short Track will be back in action as the 1764 Sports Bar & Grill Late Models rocket for 100 laps plus the Fisher Auto Parts Flying Tigers, Woodsville Guaranty Savings Bank Strictly Minis, Dwarf Cars and Dad’s 4 By Tool & Supply Kid’s Division with a 6:00pm Post Time.
