The hood of the No. 38 MRC Ford Mustang Dark Horse will feature a design “Honoring our Great Fathers” in tribute to the racing dads of both driver Zane Smith and MRC president and founder Mike Avila.
When Zane Smith heads to Sonoma Raceway for this Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series event on the California road course, he’ll do so with a special paint scheme with support from Michael Roberts Construction, Inc. (MRC).
MRC is partnering with Zane Smith for Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series event. The hood of the No. 38 MRC Ford Mustang Dark Horse will feature a design “Honoring our Great Fathers” in tribute to the racing dads of both Smith and MRC president and founder Mike Avila.
Avila is a world and national champion boat racer, while Mike’s father, Richard Avila, was also a national champion who helped guide his son’s racing career. Zane’s father, Mike Smith, was a long-time race truck builder in off-road racing.
The special MRC hood design is highlighted by a collage, featuring images of Richard Avila and Mike Smith over the years.
“I’m excited to represent MRC this weekend,” said Smith. “Mike Avila has been one of my longest and most loyal supporters. He’s been with me through nearly every stop in my career, including when we won the Truck Series championship in 2022. Together, Mike and I wanted to honor both of our fathers for the love and support they provided each of us as we built our own racing careers.”
Sunday’s race marks the lone trip for the NASCAR Cup Series to Smith’s home state of California during the 2025 season. Last year, Smith finished 16th at the 1.99-mile road course.
With a 14th-place finish on the Chicago Street Course, Smith advanced to the third round in the NASCAR In-Season Challenge. He is paired against Ty Gibbs as part of the In-Season Challenge during Sunday’s race.
The green flag waves on Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series event at Sonoma Raceway at 3:30 p.m. ET, with coverage on TNT, the Performance Racing Network and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
