'Fireball' Tardif Goes Back-to-Back in Claude Leclerc 150 at Autodrome Chaudiere
Jun 22, 2025
Andy Jankowiak stays very busy with racing, and that was especially true on Saturday night at Holland Speedway. Jankowiak earned a pair of feature wins, taking the checkered flag with both the Race of Champions Sportsman Modifieds and the TQ Midgets.
Jankowiak took the lead from Daryl Lewis, Jr. on lap 14 and led the rest of the distance for in the RoC Sportsman Modified feature. Earlier in the evening, he led 16 of 20 laps for the victory in his TQ Midget, giving him two wins on the evening at Holland.
While he had the car to beat in the RoC Sportsman Modified feature, Jankowiak was hardly satisifed with his car. He was also impressed by the fight put up by the young, up-and-coming drivers that have snagged headlines throughout the season thus far with the RoC Sportsman Modifieds, such as runner-up finisher Andrew Lewis, Jr. and Mason Hanel.
"We were tight," said Jankowiak. "I tell you what, these kids are coming. I get to be on top for one more day, I guess.I held both of them off, but, man, I was just searching so hard out there for grip, trying different lines. We were all just so even.
"Mason gave me all I could handle. He got a good start the first time, and I just couldn't shake him the second time. I got enough of a restart where I could position myself where I needed to off of two to get the run down the backstretch. He kept hanging in there, man. I love that kid. He's going to be so good. It was so much fun racing with Mason. Andy Lewis coming in second, that was everything I had."
Jankowiak's racing schedule keeps him busy, between RoC competition, the TQ Midget or his ARCA Menards Series schedule. On Saturday night, the busy schedule rewarded him with a pair of wins.
"We do so much racing with KLAS Motorsports and my deal and everything," said Jankowiak. "It's just crazy, all this stuff that we do and it takes so many people. I'm just blessed to be at the center of it. I just want to thank everybody from North Carolina to Buffalo that makes this happen for me. I'm truly blessed."
He's also fortunate to still have many opportunities to come back home to New York and race on a regular basis at tracks such as Holland.
"I look forward to coming here so much. We've got it so lucky in Western New York. We have this racing family and we have these great racetracks. The older I get, the more important it becomes that you're kind of part of that community. I think we all are, you know, so it'se every one of us. I'm just grateful for all of you doing this with me, keeping it alive in Western New York."
Andrew Lewis, Jr. finished second, giving him two runner-up finishes in a row after winning at Spencer Speedway to continue his strong start to the 2025 season.
"It was fun. We'd fight a little tight all day and loose during the race, but held on for second," said Lewis, Jr. "It's my favorite track. I just like the high-banked short tracks."
Defending RoC Sportsman Modified Series champion Kevin Timmerman rounded out the podium.
"If we could have a redraw, we've got a rocketship," said Timmerman. "Coming from 12th last week, 11th this week to the podium, two weeks in a row now. We need some more laps, I guess, because it keeps going forward.
"We hit on something a couple of years ago here. To be honest with you, I don't change a thing from the time we unload to the time we are standing right here. You've just got to pick your battles and choose the top, bototm, wherever you line up, you've got to go hard on restarts."
Shawn Nye finished fourth, with Jacob Christman rounding out the top five. Following Saturday's race, Andrew Lewis, Jr. unofficially leads Timmerman by 25 points in the series standings.
The next scheduled event for the RoC Sportsman Modifieds is the Tribute to Ed McGuire 51. That event is scheduled for Saturday, July 19.
