The entry list for the Children's Dream Fund 50 at Citrus County Speedway has hit 34 cars, with Sprint Car drivers from the Must See Racing Sprint Series presented by Perfit, the BG Products Southern Sprint Car Shootout Series and beyond will convene on March 2.
The co-sanctioned event is offering $10,000 to the winner, and serves as the season opener for the Must See Racing Sprint Series. Five-time series champion Jimmy McCune and two-time champion Troy DeCaire are among the entries for the event. Davey Hamilton, Jr. won the last three Must See races of the 2023 season, and hopes to continue that streak in the 2024 opener.
The Southern Sprint Car Shootout Series kicked off its season at Auburndale Speedway on January 13, with 14-year-old Colton Bettis taking the win. The young gun will look for another win at Citrus County against this stout field of competitors.
Defending Southern Sprint Car Shootout Series champion is part of a healthy Florida contingency hoping to keep the trophy in the Sunshine State. Other previous Southern Sprint Car Shootout Series champions in the field include DeCaire, Hamilton, Jr., Sport Allen and John Inman.
On Thursday, officials also announced the entry of Arie Luyendyk, Jr. The son of two-time Indianapolis 500 winner Arie Luyendyk and a former contestant on "The Bachelor," Luyendyk, Jr. has also competed in races such as the Indianapolis 500, the Rolex 24 at Daytona and the 12 Hours of Sebring. However, this will be just the second Sprint Car race of Luyendyk, Jr.'s newfound career in Sprint Car racing, and he hopes to compete full-time with the Must See series in 2024.
Luyendyk, Jr. made his Sprint Car debut at Davey Hamilton, Jr.'s Riskon360! Open Wheel Showdown last December. Aaron Willison pocketed $50,000 in the record-setting event at The Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
