Pro Golfer Boo Weekley Honored to Serve as 58th Snowball Derby Grand Marshal

Boo Weekley is used to aiming at flags. On Sunday, Dec. 7, the professional golfer will put one in his hand in front of the greatest collection of short-track drivers and thousands of diehard fans.

Weekley, from nearby Milton, will serve as the Grand Marshal of the 58th Snowball Derby presented by FloSports.

The three-time PGA Tour winner and current PGA Tour Champions golfer will take part in pre race festivities before giving the command and waving the green flag to start the 300-lap race, Late Model racing’s crown jewel.

“Being the Grand Marshal of the Snowball Derby is an honor for me,” Weekley said. “This race has been a big part of our community for as long as I can remember. Getting to be a small piece of that history is special.”

Weekley has made plenty of history in his own right. As one of the PGA Tour’s most colorful characters of the 2000s, his homespun demeanor has charmed galleries across the world and let his game do the talking.

He won back-to-back years at the Verizon Heritage (2007-2008) in Hilton Head, S.C., and was an integral part in the United Stated team’s thrashing of the Europeans in the 2008 Ryder Cup. Weekley is embracing his Derby role and wants to ensure fans coming to Five Flags for the first time understand that Pensacola raises champions.

“We’ve got a real fine area here, full of great folks and some of the best sports you’ll find anywhere,” he said. “I’m excited as can be to be part of it and celebrate what makes this place so great.”

Championship features for Derby Week kick off Thursday, Dec. 4, and continue through the weekend, all leading up to the 58th Snowball Derby presented by FloSports on Sunday afternoon.
