After years of effort, Trevor Berry finally holds a Winchester rifle after winning the Midwest Modifieds Tour Run for the Gun 50 on Saturday at Wincehster Speedway.

The 2012 Midwest Modifieds Tour champion had tried his hand many times at the high-banked half-mile, and even won at the track in 2023 during the World Stock Car Festival on Labor Day weekend. However, the signature win on Winchester 400 weekend eluded the Michigan driver.

Finally, all the stars aligned on Saturday, as Berry led nearly flag-to-flag to claim a convincing victor in the Run for the Gun.

"It's all family, and we've been doing this for 23 years," said Berry in victory lane. "We've been coming here since 2011, I think, and we've lost this race every way you could possibly think of losing it.

"Honestly, when I was out there, I was just like, 'God, don't have a yellow.' Then there was. Then, don't have a flat or something. We didn't. They ran me hard. I beat the best here and won a rifle."

The late caution flew as Kyle Purvis hit the outside wall on the backstretch following slight contact with Matt Dimit as they battled for the second position.

With a second-place finish, Dimit secured his third consecutive Midwest Modifieds Tour championship.

"I think this is the one that means the most," said Dimit. "Every year, there's tough competition. This year, with the money on the line, it brought in some big names, big competition. I just don't want to take it for granted. Just thrilled to be here. I've got thank Brian Nester for giving me this opportunity and Dennis Kraft, it's awesome.

"Congratulations to Trevor Berry, a well-deserved win. I really wanted that rifle. I did not want it going home with him."

While Berry entered the day with an outside shot at the championship, he knew it would take a bad day for Dimit. Instead, Berry focused on picking up a win.

"He needed a lot to go wrong to not win it," said Berry. "We came here with the goal to win this race because he had already accomplished, basically, his goal of winning the championship.

"Congratulations to those guys. They deserve it. They were the meaning of consistency all year. We had speed, we just had a lot of bad luck. We got to win a rifle and some races this year, so I had a lot of fun."

Brian Nester finished third, with Tim Burkett and Lonnie Saumier rounding out the top five.

Saumier crossed the finish line first in the CRA Street Stock feature on Saturday evening, but was disqualified in post-race technical inspection, giving the win to Colby Lane. Chris Shannon scored the victory in the CRA Late Model Sportsman 40-lap feature.

Ty Majeski qualified on the pole for Sunday's Winchester 400 for the Appalachian Sucker Punch ASA STARS National Tour. He will lead the field to the green flag at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday.
