Derrick Griffin doubled up at Five Flags Speedway on Friday night, winning his second consecutive race with the Rogers-Dabbs Performance Modifieds of Mayhem Tour powered by Chevrolet Performance.

Griffin, who won the Beach Ball 50 at Five Flags in May, made it two wins in a row with the series at the Pensacola, Florida half-mile. The victory also adds to his lead in the Modifieds of Mayhem Tour championship standings.

"I can't thank everybody that helps us do this enough," said Griffin. "Coastal Engine and Machine, Classic Homes, Buggy Worx, Deep South Cranes, everybody that helps us on this deal. Rawhide and Fisher, especially my wife, she does everything. It's just nice to put one together."

While the hot start to the season has Griffin riding momentum into another Modifieds of Mayhem Tour event on Saturday at Mobile International Speedway as part of a Gulf Coast doubleheader, he's not ready to start celebrating a successful season just yet.

"Let's not get ahead of ourselves," said Griffin. "I do like the direction we're going. We made some pretty significant changes after the last race. We weren't quite happy with it, so we're moving in the right direction."

Jared Maupin entered the night tied for second in points with Kevin Peel. Maupin finished second, while Peel was collected in an incident with Kyle Purvis on lap 16.

The incident took place as the two drivers battled for the second position exiting turn two. Griffin had just passed Peel for the lead when the two drivers collided, with Purvis' right-side tires climbing over Peel's left-side tires and nearly upending his No. 13 machine.

Maupin was just behind the incident when it unfolded, avoiding disaster. That allowed him to come home with a second-place finish on the night.

"Just a little free on entry," said Maupin. "Had a pretty good hot rod. I hate to see that wreck, but it kind of benefitted us, especially for the points. We'll keep tweaking on this thing and try again."

Two-time Snowball Derby winner Augie Grill climbed behind the wheel of the No. 18 typically piloted by Matthew Laprade. With Laprade competing at South Boston Speedway in the Thunder Road Harley-Davidson 200 this weekend, Grill took the team's entry to a third place finish.

"I just want to thank Logan for letting me drive this thing," said Grill. "Matthew had a deal going on he had to go to. It gave me an opportunity to come here and race tonight. I thought we had a better car than that honestly. Third place isn't bad, but I feel like we had a car that could race with the top two."

Donnie Hamrac finished fourth, with Buddy Anderson rounding out the top five.

The Modifieds of Mayhem Tour returns to action Saturday, June 28 at Mobile International Speedway to continue the Gulf Coast Doubleheader weekend.
