The $15,000-to-win Late Model race is one of the biggest of its kind in New England and brings out some of the region’s most prolific drivers.
Memorial Day weekend is almost here, which can only mean one thing at Wiscasset Speedway; It’s time for the annual Coastal 200! The $15,000-to-win Late Model race is one of the biggest of its kind in New England and brings out some of the region’s most prolific drivers.
Instead of the traditional car show kicking off the weekend, the track is switching things up this year and will be hosting a “No Fenders Allowed” show on Saturday, presented by Ames True Value Supply. The green flag flies at 5:00 and the event program will include the 350SMAC Super Modifieds, New England Pro-4 Modifieds, the track’s weekly T&L Automotive Modifieds and the Dale’s Cash Fuel Roadrunners.
As an added incentive for the T&L Modifieds, they will be running an extended 50-lap $1,000-to-win feature race.
Sunday’s main event, the Coastal 200, is presented by longtime Wiscasset supporters Colbrook Trailers, GT Overhead Doors and CLH & Son. Similar to recent years, fans and businesses alike have been encouraged to sponsor laps for $25 a piece, further sweetening the overall race purse, which currently sits just over $40,000.
Nearly 30 drivers are already registered for Sunday’s show, including 2-time and defending Coastal 200 winner Mike Hopkins, Wiscasset racing legend and Hall of Fame member Dave St. Clair, 2020 Oxford 250 champion Johnny Clark, 2024 division champion Frank Moulton and young standouts Daniel Harding, Brett Osmond and Jet Decker, among others.
28 cars will make the show, with 15-lap qualifying heat races determining the starting lineup for the main event. Additional consolation races will be added if/as needed.
$1,000 will also be going to the official race leader at the halfway point of the race, courtesy of Yankee Yardworks and Survey, Inc.
In addition to the Late Models, Sunday’s event schedule will also include the Portland Glass Strictly Streets and the visiting NELCAR Legends.
Adult grandstand admission is still just $5 all weekend long, while kids 6 and under get in for free. The grandstands will open 2 hours prior to show time at 12:00 pm, allowing fans plenty of time to wander the race grounds, visit the souvenir stand and grab a seat.
As a thank you to all of those who have served and/or continue to serve our great country, all veterans and active duty military members are welcome as special guests and will receive FREE grandstand admission for Sunday’s race program.
Grab the whole family, take a scenic drive up the coast of Maine this weekend and enjoy one of the biggest race spectacles of the season - the Coastal 200!
