Matt Hirschman Earns 'One For the Other Thumb' in 75th Race of Champions at Thompson

Jake Sheridan put on a clinic at Peterborough Speedway on Sunday, winning the Electric City 167 as part of the Autumn Colours Classic weekend.
Sheridan started on the pole and never relinquished the lead in the 167-lap Late Model feature, dominating the day and crossing the finish line 4.2 seconds ahead of Rick Spencer-Walt.
"I couldn't have brought much of a better car," said Sheridan in victory lane. "Just a really, really, really great car. It made my job easier, truthfully. I love this racetrack. The track's always come naturally to us. You're lucky when you have a car that good and you can start at the front like that. You can set your pace and command."
While Sheridan had a comfortable lead late in the race, he left nothing to chance knowing the quality of drivers in the 26-car field for the Canadian Thanksgiving tradition.
"I had a good enough car that, if we had to, we could pass some cars," Sheridan said. "It's nice being able to set your pace like that. We were going at the end, we were giving her. There were some amazing drivers in this event. You know, guys have raced a long, long time, like Ricky Walt and Dale and all these guys. Dan McHattie gets alongside you, it's always intimidating."
Spencer-Walt battled a tire issue and still fought to a runner-up finish in the event. He acknowledged that he might have had the third-best car on the day, but Dale Shaw lost ground after his window net fell down earlier in the race.
"We fired off after that thing," said Spencer-Walt. "We have a hole in the left-front tire, it's eventually going to go flat here. They seen it, it was bubbling up, and they wouldn't let us change it, which is fine. I just went back out. I don't know if it acted like a bleed-off for us or what it did, but it came to life.
"We were not going to catch Sheridan. I think Shaw was probably the second-place car. We were a third-place car, but that's how it works out here."
Shaw rallied to a third-place finish, clearly frustrated with the window net issue that offered a significant setback on the day.
"I held the window net up for about 10 laps under green," said Shaw. "Passed three cars while I was holding the window net up. I couldn't get it up down the back straightaway. I bent the poles, so we came in and duct-taped it up.
"I don't know if I had anything for the 52, but I think we had a second-place car. It sucks, I wanted that one bad. My guys did a great job, great adjustments at the break. We'll be back next year."
McHattie finished fourth, with Gord Shepherd rounding out the top five.
