During the first segment of this year's Kulwicki Driver Development Program, Seth Christensen drove for three different teams in seven races at five tracks in four states.
Seth Christensen emerged from the Kulwicki Driver Development Program’s opening segment in third place, just 12 points out of first. Still, his performance during that segment could easily have earned him the nickname “Mr. Versatility.”
During the first segment, the Georgia native drove for three different teams in seven races at five tracks in four states. Driving for JC Motorsports, Shotko Motorsports, and Curt Britt Motorsports, Christensen produced one victory, four top-fives, and five top-10 finishes. He said driving for the various teams provided him with the opportunity to learn the lingo used by different crew chiefs.
While racing consumes Christensen’s weekends, the teenager focuses on school and his job during the week. He has dual enrollment at Speed-U and Lanier Technical College Motorsports Vehicle Technology program.
“I’m always on the move. Always doing something, always trying to learn something, whether it’s motorsports related or academic related,” Christensen said.
Christensen, who is severely allergic to peanuts, is involved with the Food Allergy Research and Education group, working diligently to raise awareness about food allergies. This summer, he plans to work with B.R.A.K.E.S., which was created by former NHRA Top Fuel driver Doug Herbert after his two young sons were killed in a car accident. The non-profit’s mission is to prevent injuries and save lives by training and educating teenage drivers and their parents about the importance of safe and responsible driving. B.R.A.K.E.S. is the acronym for Be Responsible And Keep Everyone Safe.
This year, members of Alan Kulwicki’s 1992 NASCAR Cup championship team are mentoring the five “Underbirds.” Christensen’s mentor is Cal Lawson.
The drivers occupying first and second in the standings after the first segment will be announced on Thursday.
