Pro Late Model racer Noah Eisenhower recorded three top-10 finishes in five events while participating in various activities benefitting veterans during the first segment of the Kulwicki Driver Development Program.
He currently sits fourth in the standings.
“I felt like we started the year off pretty hot,” says Eisenhower, a Purdue motorsports engineering student.
However, Madison (Wis.) International Speedway presented a challenge.
“At Madison, as long as the straightaways are there, it’s really hard to get a crate motor spooled up to compete with the big open motors that race there every week. We’re bringing a knife to a gun fight, but it’s only going to make me better in the long run,” Eisenhower said.
During the Kulwicki Driver Development Program’s second segment, Eisenhower has his sights set on the Madison All-Star Challenge twin features and an event at Grundy County Speedway in Morris, Illinois, with the Big 8 Late Models.
Eisenhower, a cousin of the nation’s 34th president, spent a great deal of time working with veterans during the first segment. On Memorial Day, he assisted the Stephenson County Antique Engine Club with its lunch service, visiting with many veterans he has known since childhood. He also handed out Challenge coins to veterans at the Freeport Memorial Day parade in recognition of their service and to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States Army, Navy, and Marine Corps. Eisenhower assisted with organizing the event and distributed ribbons to the parade participants.
“I tried to focus on the community service aspect versus the donation side of things,” Eisenhower said.
This summer, Purdue University’s Motorsports Engineering Club has Eisenhower involved in some remote mechanical engineering projects. His otherplans this summer include working with the V oices of Stephenson County, which helps individuals and families of domestic violence, sexual assault, and abuse.
Also, he wants to volunteer in the bookstore that donates its proceeds to the foundation.
This year, members of Alan Kulwicki’s 1992 NASCAR Cup championship team are mentoring the five “Underbirds.” Eisenhower’s mentor is Brian Whitesell.
The driver occupying third in the standings after the first segment will be announced on Wednesday.
