Trans Am Series President Andy Lally Joins Racers Unchained Podcast

Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli President Andy Lally joined the Racers Unchained podcast on The RACER Channel, discussing his racing career, his role with Trans Am and more.

In the episode of Racers Unchained, hosted by Paul Tracy, Lally talks about his path from go-karts to sports car racing, the mentors who have guided him along the way, and his diverse and wildly successful career behind the wheel.

Lally also discussed his role with Trans Am, spotlighting both the importance of the CUBE 3 Architecture TA2 Series and its role in developing young, aspiring drivers looking to climb the racing ladder.

"TA2, specifically, has become a designated, well-recognized rung on the ladder of how to be a [NASCAR] Cup Champion," said Lally. "Most of my young drivers coming through don't have an eye on winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans. They want to win the Daytona 500.

"We've seen it with Brent Crews, we've seen it with Connor Zilisch, we've seen it with Thomas Annunziata, we've seen it with Tristan McKee," he continued. "Those are four just very recent examples in the last few years of young drivers that have come through either the GM program or the Toyota program and been successful straight away to the next level."

He also spoke on the challenge of the TA class cars in the Trans Am Series, with nearly 900 horsepower and no driver aids at competitors' disposal.

"Your power-to-weight is better than any sports car on the planet," said Lally. "It's a five-speed [transmission] and when you get in this thing and go stand on the gas, you're accelerating through fourth gear, you watch the tach and it seems like it's going just as fast as in first gear.

"For guys like Paul Menard, guys like Chris Dyson, Tomy Drissi, some of the veterans of the sports ... they just love to get strapped in, pushed back in the seat and send it. It's just an awesome ride."
