Trans Am Series, FR Americas Championship Headed to Trois-Rivieres in 2027

The Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières (GP3R) and Racing America today announced a long-term partnership that will bring two international series back to the Trois-Rivières street circuit starting in 2027: the Trans Am Series and the Formula Regional Americas Championship for F3 cars (FR Americas).

This agreement consolidates GP3R's position as a must-attend event on the North American road racing calendar and brings back the glory years when GP3R concluded with a high-performance open-wheel race (Formula Atlantic) followed by a roaring Trans Am race.

To mark the occasion, the presale for the 2027 GP3R on its street circuit, which will take place from August 6 to 8, 2027, is launched today at 2026 prices, at billets.gp3r.com and at 1-866-866-4787.

A Return to Roots for GP3R

For 22 years, the Trans Am Series headlined the GP3R, offering fans memorable duels and allowing motorsport legends like George Follmer, Ron Fellows, Tommy Kendall, and Willy T. Ribbs to shine on the streets of Trois-Rivières. For its part, the Formula Regional Americas Championship represents the return of an open-wheel series in the ladder leading to Formula 1, much like Formula Atlantic which shared top billing at GP3R for many years. Quebec F4 driver Luca Day is logically expected to race in FR -Americas next year.

"We have been working hard for several years to bring relevant international series back to our programming at GP3R," explained Dominic Fugère, General Manager of the event. "This agreement with Racing America to add the Trans Am Series and the Formula Regional Americas Championship to our lineup was a natural fit. Some of my best memories as a racing fan in Trois-Rivières go back to the days when the event ended with Formula Atlantic and Trans Am races. That is the magic we are bringing back to our fans."

A Track of Choice for Drivers and Teams

Ken Thwaits, Chief Operating Officer at Racing America, is delighted with the addition of Trois-Rivières to the 2027 calendar. "Racing America is thrilled to be racing at Trois-Rivières next year. A bucket list track for all our drivers and teams in Formula Regional Americas Championship and our Trans Am CUBE 3 Architecture TA2 series. We love racing in Canada! Andy Lally, President of the Trans Am Series and winner at GP3R in 2008 in the Grand Am GS category driving a BMW M3 (alongside teammate Marc-Antoine Camirand), is not alone in celebrating this return. "Three Rivers is one of the best street circuits on the planet. The atmosphere is amazing and the support from the city and the local fans is unbelievable. I can’t wait for the Trans Am Series to roll into town!"

A Key Step for the Next Generation

Scott Goodyear, Championship Director of Formula Regional Americas (FR Americas) and winner in F2000 category at GP3R in 1984, highlights the importance of this event for the development of young drivers. "I’m very excited for our series to be racing at Trois-Rivières. As a Canadian and native of Ontario, I’ve raced in Quebec many times. The fans there are absolutely in love with motor racing, and the race at Trois-Rivières is certainly a highlight. It holds a special place in my heart because I’ve won there.
