Tomy Drissi to Defend Unser Family Cup at Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion

2009 Trans Am champion Tomy Drissi will return to IROC competition for the second time this year at this weekend’s Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. Drissi, the defending winner of the Unser Family Cup for IROC drivers at this event, will join an impressive list of motorsports icons competing this weekend.

Drissi will again be behind the wheel of his 2006 IROC Pontiac Firebird, dressed in the same colors that Tony Stewart wheeled to the series’ final title that year. Earlier this year, he finished sixth in the 18-car IROC field in April’s Heritage Invitational at Ten Tenths Motor Club in Charlotte, before returning to the car at Laguna Seca this weekend.

Once again, Drissi will be joined on the grid by legends ranging from past IROC champions to key industry figures. He was joined on last year’s podium by multi-time INDYCAR champion and Indianapolis 500 winner Dario Franchitti and NASCAR Hall of Famer Kurt Busch, both of whom will be back; other icons expected on the grid will be NASCAR legends Jimmie Johnson and Bobby Labonte, CART champion and Indy 500 winner Danny Sullivan, American Le Mans Series champion Patrick Long, and Trans Am champion and Rolex 24 winner Scott Pruett. McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown and Big Machine Racing owner Scott Borchetta are also slated to compete.

“Heading back to Laguna Seca for more IROC racing at the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion is going to be awesome,” said Drissi. “Sharing a podium with Dario and Kurt last year was one of the most special moments of my career, and it’s always an honor to be able to race in IROC no matter the results. I’m excited to have the chance to defend my Unser Family Cup victory from last year and can’t wait to get back on track!”

The battle for the Unser Family Cup at the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion begins with practice sessions on Wednesday and Thursday, followed by qualifying at 11:30AM on Friday and a race at 1:35PM on Saturday. Drissi and the rest of the top IROC drivers will also sign autographs on Saturday at 11:30AM. Tickets and hospitality passes for the event remain available.
