Tomy Drissi Returns to Trans Am Action at VIRginia International Raceway

• Tomy Drissi retains third place in the Trans Am championship coming into this weekend’s event at VIRginia International Raceway
• Drissi has five career top-five finishes at VIR, including a best finish of second in 2024
• The 2009 series champion is seeking his fifth podium of the 2026 season

2009 Trans Am champion Tomy Drissi and Drissi Motorsports return to action this weekend at VIRginia International Raceway for the penultimate round of the series’ 2026 championship. Drissi and the #8 Trench Shoring Company/Motul/Petersen Automotive Museum Chevrolet Camaro team enter the weekend third in the TA class championship with just two races remaining, and they’ll look to take their fifth podium of the season in Sunday’s race.

Drissi returns to the track for the second time in three weeks after a visit to Canadian Tire Motorsport Park on Labor Day weekend, where he gave TA Cup points leader Cole Moore his first TA class start in the team’s second car and the duo combined for two top-five finishes. The results enabled Drissi to gain another six points on David Pintaric in the fight for third in the point standings, and he’ll bring a 21-point advantage into VIR this weekend.

Drissi has a three-year streak of top-five finishes at VIR, finishing fifth in 2023, a track-best second in 2024, and fourth in one of the hardest-fought battles of the season last year. Other Trans Am highlights for Drissi at the track include a third place finish in 2019 and a fifth place finish in his 2009 championship season, and he’s also had competitive runs at the track in the American Le Mans Series and GT World Challenge.

“I’m really looking forward to getting back on track in Virginia this weekend,” said Drissi. “Last year we had a really intense battle for the podium, and while we crossed the finish line third, the officials saw the contact we all had on track a little differently. This year, the goal is to get back onto the podium, while still delivering the exciting racing that Trans Am is known for and that we all love.”

The action for Tomy Drissi and Drissi Motorsports kicks off on Saturday with an optional test session at 12:20PM and practice at 5:05PM. Sunday will see both qualifying at 10:30AM and the race at 3:20PM, with 31 laps or 75 minutes on the schedule.
