Dyson & Brabham Aim for CD Racing's First Canada Trans Am Win

It’s fair to say the 2026 Trans Am by Pirelli Series has been dominated by CD Racing; nine of the 10 races run to date have been won by the team’s lead driver, Matthew Brabham in his #16 GYM SODA Ford Mustang, backed up by Chris Dyson in his #20 GYM SODA / RACER stablemate at selected events. But a victory this weekend at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park will have special meaning for both the team and for Brabham.

For CD Racing, it’s an opportunity to put the Dyson name back on the top step of the podium for the first time in two decades at one of the most challenging circuits in North America (formerly known as Mosport Park). It’s where Dyson Racing won IMSA World Sportscar races in in 1995 and 1996 and 1998 (taking first and second places), then back-to-back races in 2004 and 2005 during the American Le Mans Series era.

CTMP rejoined the Trans Am Series in 2024 after a long hiatus, but thus far victory has eluded CD Racing.

“I love driving at (CTMP),” Dyson said, “and I’ve been looking forward to adding a Trans Am win to our family’s list of successes at Mosport. It’s a bit frustrating that it hasn’t happened yet. We won the pole last year and finished second in 2024.”

For Brabham it’s a shot at putting the Brabham name back on the top step of the podium at CTMP for the first time in 59 years, since his grandfather, three-time world champion Jack Brabham, won the first-ever Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix on a rainy afternoon in August, 1967.

Earlier In his career Brabham dominated another racing class, the 2013 Mazda Pro Series, winning 13 of the 16 races. But he failed to win either of the races at CTMP.

“It’s been a long time since I’ve raced at CTMP and I’ve had lots of race wins since then,” Brabham said. “But I have to admit that it still annoys me a bit that I haven’t won there. And my dad (four-time IMSA GT champion Geoff Brabham) had a great career but never got a win at Mosport. A win there this weekend for CD Racing would be huge.”

“Everyone at the shop has been working especially hard during the six-week break following the team’s very satisfying performance at Watkins Glen,” Dyson said. (Brabham won both ends of a twin bill and Dyson scored a pair of podium finishes.) “I’ve put a lot of focus on fitness program, the cars will totally ready, and I know Matty feels he’s got special motivation for this weekend. Canadian Tire Motorsports Park Schedule

Qualifying takes place Friday, September 4, 3:45 p.m. – 4:15 p.m. ET

The 100-mile race takes the green flag Saturday, September 5, at 2:15 p.m.
