As we approach the final stages of the racing season the excitement builds for the 56th Annual Snowball Derby at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Florida. Already there have been revolutionary improvements to the purse structure that has the winner pocketing $35,000 to win with second playing $20,000 to win and third paying $10,000.

The improvements from there also include each starter getting $2,500 to take the green flag, a record for the Derby and pretty much across the board in asphalt short track racing.

“People often say the Snowball Derby is the most prestigious short track race in asphalt racing and we want to reward the teams that come here to race,” said track General Manager Tim Bryant. “With our bonus lap money program the winner of the race could pocket close to $40,000 if they win the pole and lead the sponsored laps."

Now Five Flags is rolling out the bonus incentives for outside the normal purse structure. The Country Pleasin Pole Award will pay $1,500 to the driver who is the fastest qualifier on Friday night for the Snowball Derby.

Bonus lap money will award $1,000 to the driver who is leading the race. Laps 100 and lap 200 will pay the bonus thanks to Whelen Engineering. On top of that, Harvesters Credit Union will award $1,000 bonus for the leader for the halfway mark.
