Todd Gilliland Honoring Short Track Roots with Darlington Throwback Scheme

Todd Gilliland is the latest NASCAR Cup Series driver to reveal their throwback paint scheme for next weekend's Goodyear 400 during the official Throwback Weekend at Darlington Raceway. Gilliland, and his No. 38 Front Row Motorsports team, will throw it back to the 2015 season as he'll pilot the paint scheme that he scored his first career CARS Tour race win with at Southern National Motorsports Park.

Then a teenager, Gilliland led three laps in the 150-lap event as he passed Deac McCaskill for the race win.

"It's really cool, definitely a lot of hard work and sweat had gone into this car," Gilliland said in a team release. "I was just a 14-year-old kid trying to get experience with the dream to race in the Cup Series and taking it step-by-step. This car makes me think about all the memories made along the way and my journey to Cup and to even race at Darlington for throwback weekend."

NASCAR is about racing no doubt, but the sport is also very heavily centered around family. For Gilliland's father, and former NASCAR racer, David Gilliland, the paint scheme is pretty special as well.

"It's incredible to see this scheme on Todd's car going to Darlington for the throwback weekend," the elder Gilliland said. "It was a super special car back then when we raced and it was only a dream then for him to race in the Cup Series. Now to watch him race in the Cup Series with this scheme when we were just dreaming about him making it to this level is super special. I can't wait to be there to take a picture next to it and watch it hit the track."

The paint scheme will be fully equipped with the red "G" identifier, which was used in that CARS Tour race, behind Gilliland's No. 38 number font on the car.

Gilliland has one top-10 finish through the opening 11 races of the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series season and the Front Row Motorsports driver sits 26th in the championship standings. The racer in his third full-time season, has nearly eclipsed the 100 laps led mark this season as he has 91 laps led so far this year. The driver's previous high-water mark for laps led in a season was 11 laps led in 2022.
