After picking up a shocking victory on debut in the NASCAR Cup Series event at the Chicago Street Course earlier this month, Shane Van Gisbergen says he intends to make the move to NASCAR for 2024.

According to V8Slueth.com, Van Gisbergen has already reportedly received multiple offers to compete full-time in the NASCAR Cup Series, but speaking to media on Sunday, the 34-year-old driver wasn't sure where his NASCAR journey would take him in 2024.

"When I study it, Marcos [Ambrose] did three years before he went to Cup full-time. [Juan Pablo] Montoya was pretty much a full season as well. Nobody has ever gone into Cup," said Van Gisbergen. "And I have no illusion that those ovals are going to be easy. It's going to take a lot of time to learn. I don't have a plan - hopefully, I'll work it out when I'm over there."

The Auckland, New Zealand native is set to return to the United States in August to contest the NASCAR Cup Series event at Indianapolis Motor Speedway's Road Course, where he'll return to the seat of the No. 91.

Joining him in the Verizon 200 at the Brickyard will be fellow Supercars championship contender Brodie Kostecki, who will pilot a third entry for Richard Childress Racing, No. 33, in his Cup Series debut.

As far as leaving Supercars is concerned, the 81-time race winner is currently occupied with ensuring that his organization, Triple Eight Race Engineering, has an adequate driver to fill the vacancy he'll leave for 2024, one season before his contract expires.

"There's obviously a lot happening in the background, but I'm not leaving because of this team," Van Gisbergen reiterated on Sunday. "I love this team, and, when I leave, I want to make sure that there's someone here to replace me that's going to do a good job in the car. You don't want to leave the team with nothing, and scrambling to find someone."

"A lot of the good drivers here are signed up, so, yeah, I want to leave with the team in a good spot. Hopefully, the team has someone soon."

As of right now, there is nothing concrete about Van Gisbergen's plans to compete in NASCAR next season, but further details, such as the organization he'll run with, or the series he'll compete in, are likely to be determined in the coming months.
