Joey Cohen to Assume Crew Chief Duties of LEGACY MOTOR CLUB No. 43 at Dover

Already facing the challenges of acclimating interim driver Corey Heim to the NASCAR Cup Series this weekend at Dover Motor Speedway, LEGACY MOTOR CLUB will also be without the crew chief of the No. 43 Toyota Camry XSE, the team confirmed on Sunday.

The organization says Dave Elenz, who has been present and working with Heim at the one-mile concrete oval throughout the weekend, had to travel home on Saturday evening to attend to a personal matter.

As a result, Joey Cohen, Vice President of Race Operations for LEGACY MOTOR CLUB, will be assuming the crew chief duties of the No. 43 Dollar Tree / Petty’s 75th Toyota Camry XSE for the Wúrth 400 at Dover Motor Speedway.

A long-time employee of LEGACY MOTOR CLUB (originally GMS Racing, then Petty GMS Motorsports), Cohen has one prior start in the NASCAR Cup Series as a crew chief, coming at Pocono Raceway in 2022 with Ty Dillon, who was piloting the No. 42 for the organization at the time.

Cohen is a two-time winning crew chief in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, and in 2017, served as the full-time shot-caller for Spener Gallagher and GMS Racing in the NASCAR Xfinity Series.

Sunday’s 400-lap contest will serve as a good litmus test for the LEGACY MOTOR CLUB operation, having neither the intended driver nor crew chief working the race. Heim is subbing for Erik Jones, who suffered a fractured vertebra in a multi-car wreck at Talladega Superspeedway last weekend.

Making his NASCAR Cup Series debut, Heim will start Sunday’s Wúrth 400 (2:00 PM ET, FS1) from 32nd-place, and will have two teammates in the race, in the form of seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson, as well as John Hunter Nemechek.
