Ryan Preece Named Honorary Starter for Night Before The Glen Rod Spalding Classic
NASCAR Cup Series star Ryan Preece will join the night’s festivities to sign autographs and serve as honorary starter for the 75-lap Race of Champions Modified Series feature.
The Race of Champions Modified Series will continue one of the Southern Tier’s most cherished traditions this Saturday, August 9, with the running of “The Night Before The Glen – Rod Spalding Classic” at Chemung Speedrome — and this year’s event just got a major boost.

NASCAR Cup Series star Ryan Preece, of Berlin, Conn., driver of the RFK Racing No. 60, will join the night’s festivities to sign autographs and serve as honorary starter for the 75-lap Modified Series feature. Preece, one of the sport’s most popular and respected drivers, has been on a hot streak and recently appeared on the Dale Jr. Download with Dale Earnhardt Jr., generating national buzz.
The event will also include another round of the Kids RoC Backpack Giveaway, following the huge success of last week’s Fan Appreciation Night at Spencer Speedway. On Saturday night, 70+ backpacks filled with school supplies will be handed out to kids in attendance, continuing the initiative to engage and support young race fans.
The night honors Rod Spalding, a respected Modified competitor who earned the Sportsmanship of the Year Award at Shangri-La Speedway before suffering career-ending injuries in a crash at Orange County Speedway. His legacy lives on through the Spalding Foundation for Injured Drivers, which provides essential support to racers throughout the region.
Saturday’s headlining act will be a 75-lap Race of Champions Modified Series showdown, paying $5,000 to win.
The action-packed program also features the Race of Champions Late Model Series, Race of Champions FOAR SCORE Four Cylinder Dash Series (as part of the “RoC-In” Summer Tour), and the Chemung Hobby Stocks — making for a full night of grassroots racing excitement.
