Derrick Griffin Wins Beach Ball 50 for Modifieds of Mayhem at Five Flags

Derrick Griffin dominated the Rogers-Dabbs Performance Modifieds of Mayhem Tour presented by Chevrolet Performance's visit to Five Flags Speedway on Friday, winning the Beach Ball 50.

Griffin took the lead from Jared Maupin on the ninth lap of the 50-lap feature and maintained the top spot the rest of the way for the victory. It is Griffin's second career Modifieds of Mayhem Tour victory, and his first since a win at Five Flags in 2020.

Griffin entered the night leading the Modifieds of Mayhem Tour points standings on the strength of consistency, with three top-five finishes in the first three races of the year. However, he had not yet finished on the podium this year with the series, and was happy to turn his fortunes around in Pensacola.

"All we did was put it back how it's been the last five races or so. We've just been getting kicked in the teeth with tires and anything that could go wrong, that had nothing to do with us, would go wrong. If you haven't seen it lately, I have."

It was a busy week for Griffin ahead of the Beach Ball 50. Along with the preparations on his own Modified, he and his DG Performance operation also worked on two other cars competing at Five Flags in other divisions on Friday night.

"We worked on a little bit of everything. We've got a Late Model for Brian Cagle last week, a Crown Vic for J.P. Whibbs and this thing. I've been really busy in the last week."

Cody Stickler, a four-time winner in the Modifieds of Mayhem Snowball Derby 75, finished second. Maupin came home third after leading the opening laps of the race.

"We just weren't the best on entry. I think we're in the ballpark. I just wish we could hang on to that lead a little longer and just save our tires a little bit."

The Rogers-Dabbs Performance Modifieds of Mayhem Tour powered by Chevrolet Performance returns to Five Flags for its next event on June 26. The race is part of a Gulf Coast doubleheader, as the series will visit Mobile International Speedway on June 27.
