For the first time in recent memory, a Thursday came and went in Barre, Vermont that was not affected by the rainy-wrath of Mother Nature. A sunny afternoon greeted the fans and teams of Thunder Road, all in preparation for the all-important Times Argus Midseason Championships.

Following the popular autograph session, the Lenny’s Shoe & Apparel Flying Tigers got Thursday’s feature racing off with a bang. A blown tire for point leader Sam Caron called out the first caution on lap 15 of the extra-distance 50 lap trophy dash but the big one came on lap 21. Nine cars were involved in the turn one calamity including championship hopeful Logan Powers. Back under green, Kevin Streeter and Mike MacAskill faced off at the front. The two veterans fidgeted with the lead, back and forth until MacAskill finally took the edge all the way to Times Argus victory lane. A hard-charging Robert Gordon took second with Streeter rounding out the podium.

Scott Weston and young Hayden Morris brought the rk Miles Street Stocks to green for their extra-distance 35 lap Midseason Championship event. While Morris slid back, another rookie in Tyler Wheatley quickly took over the point in a side-by-side battle with Weston that lasted over ten laps. One dust-up along the frontstretch wall ruined the night for Connor Rueda but otherwise the field was set with Wheatley taking down his second win of the season followed by Morris and Hayden Bushey across the line.

Rookie Trevor Jaques and Stephen Martin led the Maplefields/Irving Oil Late Models under the green flag for the Times Argus Midseason Championships with a mirror full of Scott Dragon. Dragon took over the top spot around Martin on lap nine just before a chain reaction on the frontstretch ended the night for Stephen Donahue and Scott Coburn. Dragon took off from position number one on the return to green flag racing and never looked back in the final sixty-five laps to walk away with the Times Argus Midseason Championship over Martin and point leader Jason Corliss.

The Burnett Scrap Metals Road Warriors finished off the night with a customary wild exclamation point on the evening. Nick Copping and Bill O’Connor showed the way early but it was Cayden Green who quickly took over the top spot and looked to run away with it. Unfortunately, the lap 23 caution for the stalled newcomer Shoshawna Mastin on the bottom of turn one ended Green’s run for the win. A wild last restart saw Derrick Mann launch into a three and four wild frenzy to take the lead and the win over another first-timer Anthony Benoit and Taylor Sayers rounding out the podium.

Thunder Road Int’l Speedbowl crowns its first champion of 2025 next Thursday, July 31 on WDEV/Calkins Portable Toilets Night. Along with the annual Port-a-Potty Grand Prix, the Squier Cup Triple Crown presented by Milton CAT for the Maplefields/Irving Late Models is on the line in the inaugural WDEV Radio 100 championship event! The Lenny’s Shoe & Apparel Flying Tigers, rk Miles Street Stocks and Burnett Scrap Metals Road Warriors are also back in action with a 7:00pm Post Time.
