Raphael Lessard Wins ACT Kancamagus 150 at White Mountain in Thrilling Finish
Jun 8, 2025
After a disappointing APC United Late Model Series season opener for Kyle Steckly at Sunset Speedway, he returned to form in the Grisdale Racing Products 150 at Flamboro Speedway on Saturday.
Steckly earned his ninth career APC United Late Model Series victory in dominant fashion. The two-time and defending champion of the Canadian-based Late Model series took the lead on lap 45 and maintained the advantage the rest of the 150-lap distance.
Of those nine wins, four have now come at the 1/3-mile Ontario facility. Needless to say, it is a favorite of Steckly's, and he was eager to bounce back at Flamboro after a 15th-place finish to open the year.
"I just love this place," said Steckly. "Always grateful to come here to Flamboro Speedway. John does such an amazing job with the track and it always puts on a good show.
"We've put a lot of work into this Port City Race Car. I can't thank my guys enough. We've had a couple of bad races, but to rebound like this, we dominated today and I'm super proud of them and all my guys behind me.
Shae Gemmell crossed the finish line in second place, nearly five seconds behind the dominant Steckly. While Steckly appeared to be on rails, Gemmell admitted a lot of work went into his car to bring it to a runner-up finish.
"We really didn't have a good car when we got here today," said Gemmell. "The boys did a hell of a job today, got this thing underneath me. Didn't qualify as good as we liked. I'm not the best at two-lap qualifying. We worked our way through the field, picked them off kind of one by one. Got the tires underneath me, made some aggressive moves when I needed to, especially on the outside there."
Similarly, Jake Sheridan said he didn't have a "very happy" race car on Saturday at Flamboro. Still, he drove his No. 52 to a third-place finish.
"It's all good, what can you do? We didn't have a very happy race car there," Sheridan said. "As soon as I let go of the brake in the middle, we were having problems. I knew about lap 25, 30, we were in trouble. I'll be honest with you, I probably gave everybody a little bit too much slack.
"Knowing what I know now, how the race played when it went green, I wish I held the 3 off. I gave him the bottom there and I should have kept digging."
Next for the APC United Late Model Series is the Spectra Premium 100 at Peterborough Speedway. That event takes place next Saturday, June 14.
