Mini Tyrrell Scores Special Victory in Mini's Mission 125 at Dominion
Jun 15, 2025
Jake Sheridan went to APC United Late Model Series victory lane for the third time in his career on Saturday night, winning the Spectra Premium 100 at Peterborough Speedway.
Sheridan took the lead on lap 38 from Connor Pritiko, despite power steering issues, and maintained the top spot the rest of the way for the win at the 1/3-mile oval in Ontario.
Even without power steering, Sheridan's car was strong enough to hold off Dale Shaw in the closing laps for his first win of the 2025 APC United Late Model Series seasn.
"Just had a really good car," said Sheridan. "We struggled a little bit on the fire-off there, but I've had those games played on me on restarts before. You've got to do what you've got to do in that kind of situation."
After a challenging ending to the 2024 season, Sheridan started to turn things around to start 2025 with a top-10 result at Sunset Speedway and a third-place finish at Flamboro Speedway. Now, he can add a victory to that list, helping to turn around some of his sour luck beforehand.
"This APC deal has not been very nice to me, as far as the races go," he said. "Not none of the guys, but we've been so close so many races and just had terrible luck. I just can't believe the things that happened to me that don't usually happen."
Early in the race, it appeared some of that bad luck might be cropping up again as Sheridan's power steering faded. Especially on the tight Peterborough Speedway, that proved challenging, but not enough to keep him from the win.
"We started to lose power steering about lap 20 there, and my God, this is the worst place to do that," Sheridan explained. "I've never lost power steering before, and it's a tough battle."
Shaw crossed the line as the runner-up, the second time he has finished in that spot already this year. While one could be disappointed to come close to another victory, Shaw had plenty of perspective after struggling in the last APC event at Peterborough.
"Last time I was here in an APC race, we got lapped," said Shaw. "It was a good car. I just ran 100 qualifying laps, man. That was awesome. I tried my best to get him. They had a great car today. I don't know, what do we have, a second, a sixth and a second this year? We haven't run worse than fourth at Sunset."
Ray Morneau finished third in the event, and also had plenty of reason to celebrate that result. After starting his season with a 20th-place finish at Sunset Speedway, Saturday's podium result was a needed confidence-booster.
"We had a rough start to the year," said Morneau. "Blowing a motor, and then last week, we were late to the track and had a right-front caliper seize up. To have a good run like this, it's good for the boys that work on this thing. I'm looking forward to the rest of the year. We struggled here last year. To come back here and run like this, I'm super proud."
The APC United Late Model Series returns to action in two weeks' time at Delaware Speedway. The AcDelco 100 is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, June 28.
