Richard Savary Scores Modified Racing Series Win at Oxford Plains
Aug 26, 2023
Gabe Brown picked up his first career American-Canadian Tour (ACT) Late Model victory on Saturday night, finishing ahead of teammate D.J. Shaw for the win.
Brown took the lead from Shaw on lap 47 after a side-by-side battle on a restart, holding the top spot the rest of the way despite a handful of late restarts which gave Shaw another shot to reclaim the lead.
“It’s fun to have teammates like that and work with them,” said Brown in victory lane. “I can’t thank him enough. We might want to kill each other during the week, but sometimes at the track, we’re alright.”
Shaw entered the day as the ACT points leader ahead of Brown, but will see some of that advantage go away in spite of his second-place finish at Oxford Plains.
“It was a good points day. I didn’t really need to lose that many to Gabe there. He led the most laps, I think, and we didn’t lead any. Solid day, better than I thought we were going to be on the first run. We fought free early on, and every restart it got better until the last two.”
Joey Polewarczyk, Jr. put together a charge through the field, finishing third after starting 20th in the 125-lap event.
“Hats off to my guys, they gave me a really good car. Just didn’t get the run we wanted in the qualifying race and it put us 20th to start the race. I just tried to be careful, stay on the bottom and time the restarts right. Congrats to Gabe and D.J., they had really good cars. I’m ecstatic to be third after starting 20th right now.”
Ryan Olsen and Derek Gluchacki rounded out the top five.
Both Brown and Shaw will have another chance to win at Oxford Plains Speedway this weekend, as they are in the field of drivers for the 50th Annual Spencer Group Paving Oxford 250. Fans unable to attend the event can watch live on Racing America.
