Dustin Smith Wins Heart of Dixie 200 at Mobile Following Luke Baldwin DQ

Dustin Smith took home $50,000 as the winner of the Heart of Dixie 200 at Mobile International Speedway on Saturday night.

Luke Baldwin crossed the finish line first in the 200-lap Pro Late Model feature, after a thrilling battle in the final 40 laps of the event. Baldwin, Smith and Jake Finch battled for the top spot, swapping the lead multiple times over a 40-lap run to end the Pro Late Model feature. Baldwin and Smith distanced themselves from the field, then exchanged the lead four times over the final five laps.

At the checkered flag, it was Baldwin ahead of Smith by a car-length. However, post-race technical inspection discovered an engine infraction on the No. 47 Bryson Lopez Racing entry, turning the victory over to Smith.

"I hate to win it this way," Smith told Short Track Scene after being declared the victor. "Robbie White builds phenomenal engines, and ours was right. It kind of sucks that we didn't get to take our victory lane photos. At the end of the day, we still won $50,000, so I feel pretty good about it.

Michael Atwell passed Finch with two laps to go to cross the finish line third. He inherited second place following technical inspection.

"We just got too tight there at the end and didn't have enough speed to keep up with them and make the passes we needed to quick enough to get to them before they lengthened that gap," said Atwell. "Hard-fought there the last couple of laps. I can't thank Rhonda and Chris Davidson and Mike Garvey enough and the whole crew for all that they do, letting me come out here."

Finch finished third, followed by Brandon Lopez and T.J. DeCaire.
