Brad May Lands Pole Position for Florida Governor's Cup 200

Brad May will lead the ASA Southern Super Series field to the green flag in the prestigious Governor's Cup 200 at New Smyrna Speedway, after a blazing qualifying lap on Friday evening.

Piloting his self-owned No. 9 Chevrolet, May was able to lay down a qualifying time of 17.566 seconds, winning the pole over Spencer Davis and the No. 96 Chevrolet by 0.021 seconds.

"We went really quick, we've got the best cars in the country here, really fast cars," said Brad May after qualifying. "We were one of the slowest in practice because we didn't put tires on until the very last practice. When we did, we made one little change, and I was really happy with the car. I thought it would take a fifty-something to be able to do it, but I didn't know if we could do it, but the car worked, turned good, everything went really good, and we were able to pull it off."

Davis was second-quickest in the qualifying session, matching the lap time to the thousandth of a second to Joe Gibbs Racing development driver Max Reaves around the half-mile New Smyrna Speedway.

Gavan Boschele and Cole Butcher were able to post the fourth and fifth-fastest lap times in qualifying on Friday, rounding out the top five.

Matt Craig was sixth fastest, with George Gorham seventh, Jett Noland eighth, Stephen Nasse in ninth, and Colby Howard rounding out the top-10 in the No. 18H.

Throughout the qualifying session, 16 of the 18 drivers entered for Saturday's Governor's Cup 200 at New Smyrna Speedway were able to post a lap around the half-mile racetrack.
