Racing America to Broadcast Pro Late Model Races at Cordele in 2024
Mar 8, 2024
Not even a first-lap spin could stop Augie Grill on Saturday night at Cordele Motor Speedway.
Grill passed Chris Davidson in the closing laps of the Georgia Spring Nationals to take the Pro Late Model victory.
The veteran driver from Alabama spun on the opening lap of the 100-lap Pro Late Model feature, but was able to restart in his starting position as the field did not complete a lap before the caution.
With the reprieve granted, Grill methodically worked his way through the field and took the lead on lap 20. However, Grill lost the lead to Stuart Dutton on a restart with 19 laps to go. Another caution followed shortly thereafter, with Davidson taking the top spot from Dutton.
However, Grill was on a mission to return to the top spot. He did just that with five laps to go, passing Davidson on the backstretch to reclaim the lead and ultimately secure the win.
Cordele is not a track the veteran Grill has raced frequently, but he is quickly amassing an impressive record at the Georgia track. In 2023, Grill won the Pro Late Model portion of SpeedFest.
“I love this place. I’ve only been here five times now and I’ve won twice,” said Grill in victory lane. “Hats off to you guys. You’ve got this place cleaned up. Thanks for all the fans for coming up. We hope we made it exciting for you.
“I didn’t want that late caution, but that’s how racing goes. It was fun racing with Chris [Davidson] and the 32 car [of Dutton]. I didn’t want to work that hard, but that made it fun.”
Davidson finished second, with Stuart Dutton rounding out the podium. Cale Hall and Luke Yarbrough completed the top five finishers.
The Georgia Spring Nationals was the first event at Cordele under new ownership. In January, Greg and Lori Noland purchased the facility and named Ricky Brooks as General Manager.
Racing returns to Cordele Motor Speedway on April 13 with the Spring Showdown, headlined by a 50-lap feature for Pro Trucks. The next Pro Late Model event at Cordele Motor Speedway is scheduled for June 29.ne
