Cody Stickler Smokes The Field in Caution-Free Modifieds of Mayhem Event at New Smyrna
Cody Stickler was LIGHTS OUT in Friday's Modifieds of Mayhem event at New Smyrna Speedway, leading every single lap and winning a caution-free event by more than three seconds over Tank Tucker.
There wasn't a single moment during Friday's 75-lap Modifieds of Mayhem event at New Smyrna Speedway where Cody Stickler, driver of the No. 46, had to even THINK about losing the race.
Starting from the pole position, after a lap nearly three tenths of a second quicker than the competition, Stickler immediately pulled away from the pack from the moment the green flag dropped, shooting to the outside lane to get a run off Turn 2 and gap his closest competitors from the get-go.
"We've been working at it for a while, you know, Johnny does a good job at making these cars fast everywhere we go, I gotta give a lot of credit to him for doing what he does," Sticker said post-race. "I wish there were more cars, you know, a little bit more of a show, but we got what we got and we make the best of it."
There were a couple of moments where Tank Tucker, who drove the No. 15W into the runner-up spot, looked to be closing the gap enough to make Stickler think twice about his advantage, but then almost instantaneously the No. 46 would seem to find another gear, getting himself far away from anybody who could potentially challenge on the long run.
Tank Tucker finished in the runner-up position, winning the battle between himself and Richie Smith that lasted throughout the entire second half of the event. Granted, that battle ended up being more than 2.600 seconds behind the eventual race-winner.
Richie Smith finished in third place and was the only other vehicle within relatively close proximity of the leader, finishing 2.814 seconds behind. Matthew Green, who finished fourth, was a whopping 12.629 seconds behind the leader.
Ander Jackson and Kevin Peel finished fifth and sixth, and were the last two drivers to finish the 75-lap feature on the lead lap. Tim Moore with seventh, with Jerry Symons, Max Wheeler, and Brad Bowman rounding out the top-10.
Alan Burns finished the race in 11th, three laps down, while Michael Mark's night ended after 40 laps, and the No. 53 came home in 12th-place.
