Brandon Barker returned to victory lane at Oxford Plains Speedway on Sunday, scoring his first win at the track since 2022.

Barker moved from third to first in the opening laps of Sunday's Mid-Coast Excavation 50-lap feature and pulled away to the win, crossing the line ahead of Ryan Littlefield and Scott McDaniel.

The victory gives Landshark Performance back-to-back wins at Oxford Plains Speedway to start the Oxford Championship Series, as Brandon Varney won the season opener in April.

"The guys at Landshark know what they're doing," said Barker. "I can't thank them enough, Kyle, Eric, Mickey, Larry. They work hard on these things, and that's why it's sitting where it's sitting.

"Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers about that. We'll try again next week."

Littlefield led the first seven laps of Sunday's race before Barker moved into the top spot. From there, his focus switched to fending off defending track champion Scott McDaniel for the second spot.

"[Barker] was putting the pressure on me," Littlefield said. "I thought I could hold him off for a little while, and the car got really free. One thing led to another, he got underneath me, and he took the spot. It's just racing, you know, he had the better car at the end of the day.

"It was still fun to race, and I'm happy to hold off Scott. He was coming quick, I just had to my marks and stay steady so I can keep him off and he wouldn't get me."

McDaniel now has a pair of third-place finishes to start the 2026 season at Oxford Plains. He chased Mike Rowe for second in the season opener before finishing third behind Barker and Littlefield on Sunday.

"Third place is good," said McDaniel. "I think if I could have just gotten to the inside a little earlier, maybe I could have stayed with Brandon. Third place is still a good run."

Other winners on Sunday include Michael Harrison (Limited Sportsmen), Jimmy Childs (Street Stocks), Cole McIntire (Mad Bombers), Karson Hewins (Thunder Stocks), David Cook (Runnin' Rebels), and Jace Pastore (Rookies)

The Oxford Championship Series is back in action on Saturday, May 16. Post time is scheduled for 6 p.m. ET, with coverage on RacingAmerica.TV.

For the second year in a row, the APC United Late Model Series season begins with Josh Stade in victory lane.

For the second year in a row, the APC United Late Model Series season begins with Josh Stade in victory lane.

Stade took the checkered flag in the Dayco 100 at Delaware Speedway on Saturday, a promising start to the year. In 2025, Stade won at Sunset Speedway to kick off what was eventually a championship season.

It is Stade's fourth career APC United Late Model Series win, but his first at Delaware Speedway, adding to the thrill of the win. He held off Jake Sheridan on a late restart to secure the win.

"I feel like this is the best chance of winning a race in Delaware that I've ever had," said Stade in victory lane. "Jake [Sheridan] and I got into one another. He's tough here. We raced good. I'm just speechless. I've always wanted to win here so bad here, a feature with a Ford in a Dayco-sponsored event, because Dayco's on my car. For Bob and the Dayco clan, I'm so glad I could get this done for everyone.

"These guys have been working really hard. This team, we're just a bunch of small-town pavers, and we got it done again. Winning opening night is cool, it takes a little bit of pressure off for getting that first feature event in the 2026 season."

Stade led just the final 16 laps of the event on a night where several front-runners ran into issues. The attrition started with a multi-car melee on the third lap that ended the night early for four drivers. Brandon Watson and Kyle Steckly both ran into issues while leading the race, with Steckly's problems giving the lead to Stade.

"I didn't know if I wanted to lead there, to be honest," said Stade. "Everyone that was leading was breaking. With 17 to go, I was like, oh my goodness, I hope this doesn't happen to me. She held strong, and I'm really happy, really proud of my team that's here and follows me everywhere."

Sheridan battled mechanical issues of his own for most of the weekend at Delaware, but his car came to life for the 100-lap feature. Ultimately, Sheridan finished second, a strong showing on the night considering the path it took to get there.

"Honestly, it's disappointing to show up like that, I guess. I hate that we had the issues we did, but, man, what a great recovery. Honestly, really, only thanks to other people's misfortunes, unfortunately. I really hate that for those guys in that lap-three deal. That was some really good cars. We fought all day. No lack of effort in practice, made the thing better. For a little engine issue and a major, major suspension issue, we did alright.

"There's not much to say. I feel like he walked away from me on the restart. I don't know what you're supposed to do there. He did everything he could. He pinched me in the fence, left me six inches, I guess that's all you're supposed to ask for. I just didn't have the car to be there. It was just so tight on the short run, it took me 10 or 12 laps to really get turning. I feel like, if I could have been there with them at the end of the last couple of laps, I could have held them off, but he just had a really good car, so hats off to those guys."

D.J. Kennington rounded out the podium, matching his best career finish in his 11th start with the APC United Late Model Series. The two-time NASCAR Canada Series champion was all smiles after the race, pleased with the long-run pace of his machine.

"We had a great car. The Castrol car was awesome all night, just too tight on the short runs. On the restarts there, it didn't matter if we were top or bottom, I just could not go for about six, seven laps ... get it, six-seven? I have a daughter, you know how that works. It would take a while for the thing to come in, and then after a long run, it was really good."

Brandon Watson finished fourth, with Marshal Schrenk rounding out the top five.

The next stop for the APC United Late Model Series is Flamboro Speedway on May 30. Fans can watch the APC United Late Model Series all season long on RacingAmerica.TV. Click here to become a RacingAmerica.TV subscriber today.

Kaden Honeycutt's incredible weekend continued on Saturday, sweeping the zMAX CARS Tour features at Ace Speedway.

Honeycutt started the weekend by winning both the ARCA Menards Series and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series events at Watkins Glen International on Friday. Both were career-firsts for the Texas driver in their respective series, a jubilant and emotional day on its own.

Honeycutt could have been forgiven if he hadn't made the trip to Altamahaw, North Carolina, to take part in the Accelerated Graphics 250 in light of Friday's success. He not only raced at Ace on Saturday night, but he also left with two more victories.

"Man, I'm so worn out," Honeycutt said in victory lane following the Late Model Stock triumph to cap off the evening. "Thank you to Kenneth Packer, my whole R&S team. I just can't believe it. I've tried so many times to pull off the double, and we effing did it. Holy crap, what a race."

Honeycutt was admittedly weary and tired after 225 laps of Late Model racing on Saturday night on top of his road-course exploits on Friday, but he expected another long night of celebration awaited him.

"I think it was more just attrition for me," Honeycutt confessed about the closing laps. "I just got so tired, man. I've been beat to death these last couple of days. Staying up until 4 a.m. last night partying didn't help out, but I am probably going to party again tonight. This is unbelievable.

"I did say I was going to crack a beer, in the stands, so I'm gonna go do that. This time, a little bit better, professional way. Thanks to all my guys, man. I've been wanting to win here again. I haven't been able to run a [Late Model] Stock here in a couple of years. R&S brings an amazing package here. Josh Yeoman, my crew chief, did a great job all day, and I appreciate him so much."

Treyten Lapcevich had a strong double-duty night of his own, finishing second to Honeycutt in the Late Model Stock race after finishing third in the Pro Late Model feature.

"I don't think I've ever driven harder in my life, honestly," said Lapcevich. "Just so close. We were kind of trading lap times there at the end. Man, they had a great race car. Kaden did a great job, but it's the one that got away."

Honeycutt also had to battle Lapcevich for the win in the Pro Late Model feature, holding off the Canadian driver on several late restarts to win that 100-lapper.

"It was tough," said Honeycutt. "It's hard to choose the bottom here as the leader when you know late in the race, for some reason, this place is really good around the middle on heat cycles. I didn't want to give up the bottom, just in case. That last restart I had was money, and I was able to get by them. Just a great race. It was great racing Treyten, hard racing for sure.

"Easily after yesterday, I could have went home and told these guys I didn't want to race, but that's not who I am. I just want to race everything I can get my hands on and just race for amazing owners who allow me to come out here and do this."

Caden Kvapil finished third in the Late Model Stock race, earning the $10,000 "Flodium" bonus in the process. Landen Lewis and Corey Heim rounded out the top five.

Jake Johnson was runner-up to Honeycutt in the Pro Late Models, followed by Lapcevich, Ben Maier and Keelan Harvick.

The next two events on the zMAX CARS Tour schedule feature just the Late Model Stock division, racing at Langley Speedway on May 30 and Dominion Raceway on June 13.
Colton Bettis, already one of the rising young stars in pavement Sprint Car racing, scored his first career Must See Racing Sprint Series win on Friday night at Anderson Motor Speedway.

Bettis jumped to the top spot at the start of Friday's 40-lap feature, leading every lap in the caution-free race completed in nine minutes, 18 seconds at the South Carolina facility.

The 16-year-old from Florida is an 11-time race winner with the BG Products Southern Sprintcar Shootout Series, which partnered with the Muse See Sprints for Friday's contest. Now, he is a Must See Racing winner in his sixth career start with the series.

While Bettis flexed his muscle in the feature, it was a trying weekend for the young driver. Mechanical issues during testing at Anderson on Thursday set a negative tone for the weekend, but he and his team rebounded for the win on Friday.

“We found a fuel issue yesterday during practice and were devastated at the time” explained Bettis in victory lane. “We pulled the tail tank off today and put another one we had in the trailer, and it ran. So, it must have been a tail tank issue. My guys never give up and I’m thankful for them."

Bettis took the lead from Bobby Santos, III to start the race, and quickly distanced himself from the veteran with 14 career Must See wins. While occasionally battling intense lapped traffic, Bettis maintained his advantage, crossing the finish line 5.754 seconds ahead of Santos.

Santos finished second, with Davey Hamilton, Jr. , Joe Ligouri and Jimmy McCune rounding out the top five.

Hamilton set a new Anderson Motor Speedway track record during qualifying on Friday, navigating the 3/8-mile oval in 12.907 seconds. He and Bettis, at 12.989 seconds, became the first drivers to clock in under 13 seconds in the track's history.

Ligouri and Dylan Reynolds scored heat race wins to start the evening of racing.

Originally, Friday's event at Anderson was scheduled as part of a doubleheader weekend in the Southeastern United States for the Must See Racing Sprint Cars. However, Saturday's race at Cordele Motor Speedway has been postponed due to inclement weather. Cordele officials announced Friday evening that the speedway has canceled its racing program for Saturday, with rain in the forecast throughout the day.

Currently, the next stop on the Must See Racing schedule is Berlin Raceway on Saturday, June 6.

“We’re excited to have FR Americas, F4 U.S. and Ligier JFC highlighted in ‘Road to Glory: Formula Edition,’” said Scott Goodyear, Race Director. “The series gives fans a chance to see more than just what happens on track—it’s an opportunity to get to know the drivers as people and learn about the different paths that brought them here. Our paddocks are incredibly diverse, with drivers coming from different countries, cultures and backgrounds, each pursuing the same dream, but on their own unique path. ‘Road to Glory: Formula Edition’ will shine a spotlight on those stories in a way fans haven’t seen before, and I think people are really going to connect with that. Beyond the storytelling aspect, being part of the show will also give these young drivers valuable experience with the media and marketing side of the sport, which is an important part of building a professional racing career.”

“I’m excited to debut ‘Road to Glory: Formula Edition,’” said Ken Thwaits, Chief Operating Officer of Racing America. “When we launched the original ‘Road to Glory’ series four years ago, the goal was simple: give fans an authentic, behind-the-scenes look at life in the Trans Am paddock. Since then, the series has built an incredible audience with viewers tuning in from around the globe. The FR Americas, F4 U.S. and Ligier JFC paddocks are filled with rising stars and unforgettable personalities, so expanding the brand to showcase Racing America’s Formula Ladder felt like a natural step. These drivers are at the intersection of passion and pressure, and how they react to it will define their journey to the top levels of racing.”

“Road to Glory: Formula Edition” can be watched on RacingAmerica.TV, by downloading the RacingAmerica.TV app or by visiting @RacingAmericaTV on YouTube. The show will also debut on RACER Network in the coming weeks for even more airtime and viewing opportunities.

With filming ramping up as the season unfolds, “Road to Glory: Formula Edition” will feature at least eight hour-long episodes focused on each of the 2026 race weekends.

Following the “Road to Glory: Formula Edition” premiere on Monday night, new episodes will air shortly after each race weekend. Dates and times will be promoted on each championship’s website and social channels.

Carson Brown brings a repertoire of racing skills to Watkins Glen, including race-winning road-course ability in Trans Am’s CUBE 3 Architecture TA2 Series.

The General Tire 100 Friday at Watkins Glen International will mark Carson Brown’s first career road-course start in the ARCA Menards Series. But if you’re thinking the 17-year-old will need all 41 laps to figure out the nuances of turning left and right around the 2.45-mile, seven-turn road course in upstate New York, think again.

Despite his youth, Brown brings a repertoire of racing skills to Watkins Glen and his No. 28 Klean Freak Chevrolet from Pinnacle Racing Group, including race-winning road-course ability in Trans Am’s CUBE 3 Architecture TA2 Series.

In 2025, Brown made five TA2 starts, which included Watkins Glen. He qualified third and finished third in his July visit to the track, and it served as a prelude to Brown’s first TA2 victory two months later when he won at VIRginia International Raceway near Alton.

“I drove for TeamSLR, and the owners, Scott Lagasse Sr. and Scott Lagasse Jr., are both former drivers. They’re very good mentors and their cars are really good, too,” Brown said. “We ended up finishing about three spots better every race, and by the time we got to VIR, we were like, ‘This is our time.’ I qualified second and, at first, was just trying to pace myself, but ended up racing really hard for the lead, and then I pulled away for the win.”

Brown won by 1.748 seconds. The three TA2 races that preceded that win obviously helped, but so did Brown’s prodigious dirt-track background. His dirt experience started in Legend Cars and continued in winged and non-winged 600cc Micro Sprint Cars beginning in 2022. Brown delved into dirt Super Late Models in 2023, winning in his sixth start Aug. 19 at Moler Raceway Park in Williamsburg, Ohio.

“My dirt experience has helped me adapt to new racetracks and new disciplines quicker,” Brown said. “Dirt tracks are always changing with the way the surface goes from tacky and smooth to dry and hard-packed, to the way the groove ends up – cushion, no cushion, a berm on the bottom. You’re forced to adapt every lap, so I’m used to experimenting and finding the feel that works best in a short amount of time.”

Brown and his ARCA counterparts have limited time to dial in their racecars before the General Tire 100. A 45-minute practice at 9:30 a.m. EDT is followed by a 20-minute group qualifying session at 10:30 a.m. That’s it for track time ahead of the 41-lap race at 1 p.m.

To take full advantage of the time available, Brown has been at the GM Tech Center in Charlotte, North Carolina, utilizing its simulator. As a development driver for Richard Childress Racing, Brown is immersed within Wise Optimization, the driver development arm of GM Motorsports.

“The sim sessions run by Josh Wise and Scott Speed are very helpful,” Brown said. “You learn your brake markers, your elevation changes, how the tires are going to grip up and where, what curbs are where, what curbs are taller than normal – it gets you prepared so that when you are out there on the track, you know what to expect. There’s still a learning curve, but it’s a little less steep.”

Brown’s ARCA results confirm that his pre-race preparation pays off. In five career ARCA starts, Brown has never finished outside the top-10. In fact, his average finish is fourth, a number bolstered by his win from the pole March 5 at Phoenix Raceway.

The sim time ahead of Friday’s race, combined with the TA2 race he ran last July at Watkins Glen, has given Brown a deep understanding of the track’s layout.

“Watkins Glen is a very fun racetrack. There’s a lot of elevation change, but it’s pretty flowy. It’s the closest a road course can get to being an oval with how the corners are shaped and how you have to carry speed through them,” Brown said.

Knowledge breeds confidence. Brown has both entering Watkins Glen, along with an extremely competent team.

“It’s my first road-course race in ARCA, but my mindset is pretty open,” Brown said. “Pinnacle Racing Group won the race last year, so winning is the expectation across the organization. It’s always the goal to come out on top. So, we’ll take all the prep work and get a baseline on the car in practice. We’ll put it all into play in the race and see how it shakes out at the end.”

The General Tire 100 will be broadcast live on FS2 and streamed on the FOX One app. SiriusXM NASCAR Radio will provide live audio coverage.

Eight drivers out of the 33 entered for Friday's ARCA Menards Series event at Watkins Glen International boast ties to the CUBE 3 Architecture TA2 Series.

The CUBE 3 Architecture TA2 Series is a proving ground for up-and-coming racers seeking to climb the racing ladder. That will be on display this weekend at Watkins Glen International when the ARCA Menards Series takes the track on Friday.

The General Tire 100 on Friday, May 8 puts the ARCA Menards Series on center stage during NASCAR's annual visit to the New York road course. Eight drivers out of the 33 entered for Friday's race boast ties to the CUBE 3 Architecture TA2 Series.

Tristan McKee currently leads the ARCA Menards Series East points standings, with two wins on the year. Last year, he scored four wins with the CUBE 3 Architecture TA2 Series en route to the championship. One of those wins came at Watkins Glen International, giving him plenty of experience and confidence entering Friday's race.

Last year, Sam Corry finished second in CUBE 3 Architecture TA2 Series points to McKee, including a win at Lime Rock Park. He is currently third in TA2 points for 2026, behind Helio Meza and Alon Day. While Corry made three ARCA Menards Series starts last year, this will be his first chance to show off his road course ability with the series.

Thomas Annunziata has four career wins in the CUBE 3 Architecture TA2 Series, including two during the 2025 season. Those wins came in the opening rounds at Sebring International Raceway and Road Atlanta. Two years ago, Annunziata finished seventh in the ARCA Menards Series event at Watkins Glen.

Carson Brown is another CUBE 3 TA2 Architecture race winner in Friday's field. Brown made five TA2 starts in 2025, including a win at Virginia International Raceway. Brown finished third in last year's TA2 event at Watkins Glen International won by McKee.

Tyler Kicera finished second in that TA2 race at Watkins Glen in 2025, joining McKee and Brown on the podium. Kicera has made 35 career TA2 series starts, including wins at Virginia International Raceway in 2020 and the Charlotte Motor Speedway ROVAL in 2022.

Max Reaves has impressed already in his career, including eight career wins on the ARCA platform. The Trinity, North Carolina driver broadened his horizons in April, making his TA2 debut at Sonoma Raceway during the JM Environmental Trans Am Doubleheader weekend. Reaves finished 19th in the Saturday race, and improved to seventh in the Sunday feature. Reaves hopes to take the lessons learned from his Trans Am debut to Watkins Glen this weekend.

Like Reaves, Jake Bollman has made a lone Trans Am appearance to round out his racing skillset. He piloted the No. 75 Silver Hare Racing entry to a 10th place finish at Barber Motorsports Park in 2025. Bollman enters Friday's General Tire 100 as the points leader for the ARCA Menards Series.

Gavan Boschele has boasted a stellar and diverse resume during his young career, proving he can win on both dirt and pavement. He also made three TA2 starts in 2023, including a pair of top-10 finishes at Road Atlanta and NOLA Motorsports Park.

The General Tire 100 takes the green flag on Friday, May 8 at 1:30 p.m. ET. Television coverage of the event will be provided on FS2.

Kulwicki Driver Development Program finalist Penn Sauter will be honoring Alan Kulwicki and continuing a family tradition in 2026.

Being selected as a finalist for the Kulwicki Driver Development Program is always special for aspiring Late Model competitors. For Penn Sauter, however, it hits a little closer to home.

The 16-year-old driver hails from Wisconsin, cutting his teeth on some of the same bullrings where Alan Kulwicki plied his craft. Before he was a NASCAR Cup Series champion, Kulwicki competed on battlegrounds such as Slinger Speedway, Wisconsin International Raceway, Madison International Speedway, the Milwaukee Mile and more throughout the state.

“That was super special when Ryan [Zeck] first called me and told me about it," Sauter told Racing America. "It was something that, when I first applied for it, I really honestly thought it was a long shot. I didn’t think that I had enough experience, I was kind of young compared to everyone else applying. Obviously, to get that call, super special.

"To be the one from Wisconsin, you know, Alan ran his own race team out of here. Being from Wisconsin, taking it to a Cup championship, the whole program is just special to me. We’ve got a couple of Kulwicki Memorial races up here, so I’m looking forward to working with charities and having some training calls and using their mentors for advice. Super cool to be a part of that and looking forward to the summer ahead.”

Sauter also comes from a long, storied racing lineage that also battled around the same racetracks Penn now faces. His grandfather, Jim Sauter, claimed two ARTGO championships and the 1980 National Short Track Championship among a long list of accomplishments. Many of Jim's sons also raced at a high level, including Penn's father, Johnny, who was an ASA champion before embarking on his prolific NASCAR career that included the 2016 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series championship.

With Penn Sauter named one of five finalists for the 2026 Kulwicki Driver Development Program, he now carries his own family's proud lineage along with the Kulwicki legacy.

“You could probably go on the internet right now and find 10 pictures of my grandpa running side-by-side with Alan at Madison. To know there’s so much more meaning than just going to the racetrack. I feel like those guys down south, they don’t really understand it. Alan raced at Kaukauna and Madison, places like that.

"My dad sat on the hill and watched Alan race, my uncles, and it’s cool to hear stories from them now that I’m part of the program, just the kind of guy he was and how he raced. How he had that no-quit attitude, and that’s something I've really strived to do ever since joining the program, and I feel like it’s helped me a lot, obviously.”

If early returns are any indication, that no-quit attitude will pay dividends in 2026. Last year was Sauter's first competing regularly in the Super Late Model world, and it came with plenty of growing pains. While he boasted plenty of speed, consistent finishes eluded the young driver.

A year of short-track education and majority are already paying off for Sauter to start 2026, including fourth-place finishes in both the Icebreaker at Dells Raceway Park and the Joe Shear Classic last Sunday at Madison.

“Last year, we made our junior voyage into the Super Late Model world," Sauter explained. "We had some speed at times, but never those breakout runs like we had Sunday. I feel like we just did our homework. On Saturday, during practice, we were really good, really didn’t make many adjustments. It's really cool to finally have a race go to plan, no part failures and be there in contention at the end.

“I felt like, in June last year, we had a couple strong runs, we had breakout runs that were good, but we were never able to finish them off. Over the offseason, I feel like I've matured a lot, physically and mentally, and it’s only helping us.”

Part of that education process has been adjusting to the grind of long-distance Super Late Model races. That was on display in Sunday's Joe Shear Classic, as Sauter bided his time during the 200-lap race around the Madison half-mile and put himself in contention for the win late.

“I’ve had to adapt a lot," said Sauter. "Last year at Madison at the ASA race, we ran second through the first two stages and ended up breaking a ball joint and stuff. Managing your stuff is something big that I’ve had to pick up on. A lot of the guys I was racing since then have been doing it for 10, 15 years. I’m obviously a little behind the game on them, but it’s only making me better racing those guys."

The Kulwicki Driver Development Program emphasizes finalists representing Kulwicki's legacy both on and off the race track. For Sauter, that will include continuing his ongoing efforts to support the Professoinal Fire Fighters of Wisconsin's Summer Camp for Burn Injured Youth, commonly referred to as "Burn Camp" for short.

“I’ve been part of the Burn Camp for the last two years, even before I thought about joining the [Kulwicki Driver Development] Program," Sauter said. "We just have a race car night out there about the beginning or middle of August, take our race cars out there. It’s just really cool to see, to be able to interact with the kids and show them something they’ve never seen before.

"A kid going through burn camp, you’re going through some really hard parts of your life being burned and stuff like that. It’s cool to come out and see race cars, I’m sure. We have parties in the parking lot before some of the races, raise money for that, sell hats, t-shirts, stuff like that."

Sauter also has plans to support another cause close to him and his family later this year.

"For another charity, at the end of the year, I’m looking forward in October to working with breast cancer awareness. My grandma beat that 10 years ago, so it’s something really close to my family.”

Sauter's 2026 season will include continued appearances with both the ASA Midwest Tour and the Alive for 5 Series at Dells Raceway Park. He also plans on competing in marquee events such as the Slinger Nationals and select ASA STARS National Tour events, both in Wisconsin and beyond.

Lanie Buice delivered a breakthrough performance at Sonoma Raceway, scoring a win in the Western Championship class for the CUBE 3 Architecture TA2 Series.

Two weekends ago at Sonoma (Calif.) Raceway, 19-year-old Lanie Buice delivered a breakthrough performance that felt both sudden and inevitable.

The native of Jackson, Georgia, qualified her No. 27 Sunoco/Guthrie’s Garage/SLR-M1 Racecars Chevrolet Camaro for North Florida-based TeamSLR on the Western Championship-class pole for the April 25-26 weekend doubleheader opener, then backed it up with a commanding victory on race day.

For a driver admittedly still in the early stages of learning the nuances of road racing, it was a statement performance, one that brought to light both her rapid development and the strength of the program around her at TeamSLR through just five career TA2 Series starts.

“It was a little bit of a shock qualifying on the pole and winning the Western Championship race, but my TeamSLR guys always bring a really bad fast racecar,” said Buice, who’s one of the hand-picked class of young Chevrolet development drivers under the tutelage of Josh Wise, Scott Speed and Lorin Ranier. “That was a lot of fun. I cannot thank TeamSLR enough, and Chevrolet and Sunoco Race Fuels and Guthrie’s Garage for the opportunity to be out here. Everybody just gave me a really good car and I’m super grateful.”

Buice arrived at Sonoma bolstered with confidence after her ARCA Menards Series career-best finish of fifth just days earlier on the 1.5-mile oval at Kansas Speedway in Kansas City. She applied that momentum into navigating one of the most technical tracks in North America for the first time in a TA2 car, and emerged as the first female driver ever to win a Western Championship race.

Her progress through five race weekends of TA2 competition dating back to her series debut last September at Virginia International Raceway in Alton has been steady, if not rapid enough to her liking.

“I have a lot of expectations of myself and I’m very hard on myself,” Buice said. “But I also know it takes time and I have to work at it every single day.”

That work ethic is central to her rise not just in her race craft, but in her preparation. As a development driver in the Chevrolet Wise Optimization program, Buice credits the system and culture created by performance coach Josh Wise and his team for sharpening her mental approach.

“The mind makes a huge difference in this industry,” she said. “Being able to switch it on and off, to reset after a tough day, that’s been one of the biggest things I’ve learned.”

At Sonoma, those lessons were put to the test. Buice handled relentless pressure throughout the race while running deep inside the overall top-10, navigating traffic and maintaining composure well beyond her road-racing experience level.

Team co-owner Scott Lagasse Jr., wasn’t the least bit surprised by what he witnessed that day.

“To see her mental strength, under massive pressure, passing lapped cars, I didn’t have to do or say much,” Lagasse said. “She did it. And for me, that’s absolutely awesome.”

Lagasse emphasized the bigger picture behind Buice’s performance gains since joining TeamSLR, crediting the synergy between TeamSLR and the pipeline of young drivers from Chevrolet, with whom his team is an official driver development partner.

“Any driver that gets in that system just gets better,” he said. “The culture they’ve built, looking internally, improving without tearing yourself down, it’s very special.”

While Buice stood atop the Western Championship podium after the Saturday-afternoon race with her overall sixth-place finish in the 34-car field, she was quick to praise the collective effort behind her result. It was a day TeamSLR occupied all three spots on the overall podium with Buice’s fellow Chevrolet development driver Helio Meza leading the way after his fourth of five consecutive victories to start his TA2 Series career. Meza was joined on the Saturday podium by teammates Alon Day, the runnerup, and Connor Mosack, the third-place finisher. Meza followed it up with a victory in the Sunday race that extended TeamSLR’s winning streak to 11 races dating back to last June at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, where its 15-year-old driver Tristan McKee scored his first of four wins en route to the 2025 CUBE 3 Architecture TA2 Series championship.

“TeamSLR is like a family,” Buice said. “We have some of the hardest-working people in the series, and I think that’s what makes the difference.”

That culture has become a defining trait. From veteran crew chiefs to rising teenage drivers, the organization’s depth was on full display at Sonoma, where TeamSLR drivers occupied the top four starting positions for the weekend’s second race.

Lagasse sees it all as an exercise in trust.

“You find the right people, put them in the right seats, and let them do their jobs,” he said. “We’re feeling very fortunate to have what we have going on right now.”

For Buice, her Sonoma victory is positioned as a launching point. Her 2026 campaign includes the full, 12-race TA2 Series schedule, additional ARCA races, and continued development across multiple disciplines including Late Model weekly series events.

Through it all, her ambition is unmistakable.

“I want this more than anything,” she said. “I want to be up front, and I want to win races.”

This year, the APC United Late Model Series introduced its Elite Program. The Elite Program has been developed to reward drivers and teams competing on a full-time basis with the tour, offering incentives and benefits for teams that commit to the eight-race season.

The season begins this Saturday, May 9 at Delaware Speedway with the Dayco 100. Before the action begins, here is a look at the nine drivers who have joined the APC United Late Model Series Elite Program for the 2026 season.

Kendra Adams

Kendra Adams made her APC United Late Model Series debut in 2024 and competed full-time with the series in 2025. She battled with Cory McAllister for the series' Rookie of the Year honors, and will be building on that experience in the 2026 season as she prepares for another full-time campaign.

Junior Farrelly

A mainstay of the APC United Late Model Series, Junior Farrelly has made 62 career starts with the series and finished eighth in points in 2025. He broke through for his first career win during the season-opening event at Sunset Speedway in 2024.

Shae Gemmell

Shae Gemmell boasts 88 career APC United Late Model Series starts, and wins in each of the past four seasons. He finished third in points in 2025, just 16 points behind champion Josh Stade. Last year, Gemmell capped off his season with a victory in the Castrol Great Canadian 300 at Delaware Speedway,

Ray Morneau

A familiar face in APC since 2019, Ray Morneau enters his third full-time season in 2026. Morneau was remarkably consistent during that 2024 season, never finishing outside the top 10 and taking home sixth-place honors in the championship fight. He hopes to score his first APC Series victory during the 2026 season.

Connor Pritiko

Connor Pritiko will certainly be one to watch as the season opens at Delaware Speedway this weekend. The Kilworth, Ontario native won the track's Pro Late Model championship in 2023 before joining the APC United Late Model Series full-time in 2024. He's earned a win in each of the past two years on the tour, both at his home track of Delaware.

Jake Sheridan

Jake Sheridan missed out on the APC United Series title in 2025 by a scant six-point margin, finishing second in the championship standings. He has four career APC victories, with two of them coming last year at Peterborough Speedway and Sunset Speedway. He hopes to make the jump from contender to champion in 2026.

Josh Stade

The APC Series' ironman became its newest champion in 2025. Josh Stade boasts 95 consecutive starts with the series, including three wins, 25 top-five finishes and 52 top-10s. After a thrilling championship battle, Stade lifted the APC United Late Model Series title in 2025, and will be back for another go in 2026.

Kyle Steckly

Kyle Steckly is a two-time APC United Late Model Series champion, winning the title in 2023 and 2024. He picked up three wins during the 2025 season, tying him with J.R. Fitzpatrick for second on the all-time wins list. The 2024 Redbud 400 winner will be pursuing another APC championship this year while also hunting for the ASA STARS National Tour championship.

Brandon Watson

The APC United Late Model Series' winningest driver returns to the title chase in 2026. Brandon Watson is a two-time series champion, and his 19 wins are the most in series history. However, he has not competed full-time with the series since his 2021 championship campaign. That changes in 2026, as Watson has registered for the APC Series Elite Program.

The Dayco 100 kicks off the 2026 APC United Late Model Series season on Saturday, May 9. APC competitors take the green flag at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday evening.
