Amy Ruman completed a successful return to racing at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Munroe Falls, Ohio – Amy Ruman made a successful return to competition last weekend at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, advancing from twelfth on the starting grid to finish seventh in the TA class and ninth overall in the Trans Am Series Presented by Pirelli event.

The race marked Ruman's first appearance behind the wheel of the No. 23 McNichols Co./Valley Automotive Group Chevrolet Corvette since suffering serious leg injuries in an off-track accident last fall. After missing the conclusion of the 2025 season and the opening rounds of the 2026 season, taking the green flag at Indianapolis represented a major milestone in her recovery.

"It felt so good to be back in the 23 and in the Trans Am paddock again," said Ruman. "Had a lot of fun battles and close racing to help get me back in the grove. I'm happy with how things went and especially glad we had a decent finish in the race. I need to keep working on finding more speed and putting together faster laps, but the biggest thing is continuing to build stamina and strength. There is just no substitute for seat time and that’s what I need.”

After a quick turnaround, the team now shifts its focus to the Round 7 of the Trans Am Series Presented by Pirelli at the legendary Road America circuit in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, this weekend for the Cheese Capital Cup.

The Series returns to one of the nation’s most notorious road courses and one of the fastest tracks on the schedule. Road America is a 4.048-mile circuit constructed of 14-turns and is the longest track on the schedule. “I love Road America, the fans here are awesome and it’s the best track to showcase the horsepower of the TA cars,” remarked Ruman.

Fifty-six competitors are entered across all classes, with seven running in Ruman’s TA class. Testing, practices, and qualifying will take place Friday through Sunday. The Trans Am TA/GT feature race will be Sunday, June 28th at 10:05am CT. The CUBE 3 Architecture TA2® Series race will follow at 1:10pm CT.

“Tovo Brothers look ahead to Road America following milestone weekend”

June 25, 2026 – The Tovo Brothers experienced both triumph and adversity this past weekend at Indianapolis Motor Speedway as the Trans Am Series contested its latest round of the 2026 championship with Nitro Motorsports. After showing impressive speed throughout the event, Ethan Tovo captured his first career Trans Am podium finish, while brother Jackson Tovo saw his race end prematurely after opening-lap contact.

Both drivers entered the weekend carrying momentum from a string of steadily improving performances throughout the season, and qualifying confirmed the progress they have made in one of the most competitive fields in the series.

Ethan delivered one of his strongest weekends to date, racing at the front of the field and crossing the finish line fourth. Following post-race adjustments to the results, he was officially promoted to third place, securing his first Trans Am podium finish and a significant milestone in his racing career.

The result continues a season-long trend of improvement for Ethan, who has consistently worked his way closer to the front with each event.

Jackson also showed strong pace throughout the weekend and was poised for a competitive run before his race came to an unfortunate end after contact on the opening lap forced his retirement. Shaken up but unhurt due to the safety of his Toyota, Jackson will need to go to a back up car this weekend as his primary machine was a total loss in the incident.

"It's a really special feeling to finally earn my first Trans Am podium,” says Ethan. “We've been working toward this all season, and every weekend we've gotten a little bit closer. The Nitro Motorsports crew gave me a fantastic car, and to achieve this result at Indianapolis Motor Speedway makes it even more memorable. Hopefully, this is just the beginning, and we can continue building momentum."

"Obviously, it wasn't the result we wanted after showing good speed all weekend, but that's racing sometimes,” says Jackson. “It's disappointing to have the race end on the first lap, especially when we felt like we had a car capable of moving forward. I'm proud of Ethan for getting his first podium, and we'll take what we learned this weekend and focus on bouncing back at Road America."

The brothers will have little time to celebrate or dwell on the weekend's results as they immediately turn their attention to the next round of the Trans Am Series at Road America.

Located in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, the historic 4.014-mile circuit is one of the most iconic and demanding road courses in North America. The race weekend will begin with testing on Friday before practice and qualifying take place on Saturday. The Trans Am race will go green on Sunday. Fans can watch all of the action live on the Racing America YouTube channel.

With Ethan's first podium now secured and both drivers continuing to show race-winning potential, the Tovo brothers head to Road America eager to continue their upward trajectory in the 2026 Trans Am championship.

Fulltimers Helio Meza, Alon Day, and Lanie Buice To Be Joined By TA-Class Points Leader Matthew Brabham In His TA2 Series Debut.

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. (June 25, 2026) – There may be no more fitting a place for the CUBE 3 Architecture TA2 Series to spend the weekend before America’s 250th birthday than Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin.

Known as America’s National Park of Speed, the mammoth 4.048-mile, 14-turn road course has long served as a showcase for some of the world’s most well-known drivers and most memorable moments. TeamSLR looks to add another chapter to that rich history as it arrives for the Cheese Capital Cup celebration riding the momentum of a 1-2 finish last Sunday on the hallowed grounds of Indianapolis Motor Speedway at the hands of race-winner Helio Meza and runner-up Alon Day.

This weekend, they and fellow fulltime driver Lanie Buice welcome Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli TA-class points leader Matthew Brabham to the lineup. The 32-year-old, third-generation racer and winner of five of this year’s first six TA races has eagerly awaited his first career TA2 Series race.

Meza, the 18-year-old from Houston and driver of the No. 28 Alessandros Racing/Chevrolet/SLR-M1 Racecars Camaro, fulfilled a lifelong dream last weekend when he led from pole to checkered flag in his first outing of any kind at Indianapolis. Afterward, he led the traditional celebratory kissing of the track’s Yard of Bricks by the entire TeamSLR organization that was onsite, then promptly climbed the fence at the start-finish line en homage to the legendary driving hero he was named after, four-time Indianapolis 500 winner Helio Castroneves.

It was the sixth time in his first seven career TA2 races that Meza led from pole to checkered flag, dating back to his victory in his series debut during last November’s season finale at Circuit of the Americas (COTA) in Austin, Texas. Sunday’s victory was also the 13th in a row for TeamSLR dating back to the June 2025 victory by 15-year-old Tristan McKee en route to last year’s TA2 Series championship.

TeamSLR’s current win streak has come at the hands of five different drivers, including Day, the 34-year-old from Ashdod, Israel, who ended Meza’s record five-race streak with a stellar drive Memorial Day weekend at Lime Rock Park in Lakeville, Connecticut. The driver of the No. 17 JSSI/SLR-M1 Racecars Chevrolet Camaro and first-year TA2 Series competitor is on a streak of five consecutive podium finishes after his runner-up finish at Indianapolis – the third time Meza and Day have finished 1-2 in the last four races. Day finished third in the season’s second round March 14 at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta, and posted back-to-back runner-up finishes in the weekend doubleheader April 25-26 at Sonoma (Calif.) Raceway. Day has previous experience at Road America, albeit 10 years ago, when he competed in the August 2016 NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series race for owner Carl Long.

Buice, the 19-year-old from Jackson, Georgia and driver of the No. 27 Sunoco/Guthrie’s Garage/Chevrolet/SLR-M1 Racecars Camaro, had a strong finish to her race Sunday at Indianapolis, rallying for a top-10 finish after maneuvering to avoid a midrace incident dropped her back to 16th. She arrived at Indianapolis on the heels of back-to-back fifth-place ARCA Menards Series finishes June 5 at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, and June 12 at Pocono (Pa.) Raceway, where she became just the seventh female driver in series history to qualify on the pole. During the Sonoma weekend doubleheader in April, Buice became the first female race winner in TA2 Series Western Championship history with her sixth-place overall finish. She was entered in both the TA2 national and Western Championship fields, which ran concurrently.

The versatile Brabham, whose grandfather is three-time Formula One champion Sir Jack Brabham, and whose father is four-time IMSA GTP champion and IndyCar veteran Geoff Brabham, has longed to compete in the TA2 Series since his first taste of TA racing in 2021. The 32-year-old Australian-American will be behind the wheel of the No. 48 Roaring Pines Motor Club/SLR-M1 Racecars Chevrolet Camaro this weekend while pulling double duty with his fulltime ride for 2026 in the No. 16 TA car for owner Chris Dyson. Brabham has won five of this season’s first six TA races in convincing fashion, and 13 of his 22 career TA starts, with 10 pole positions, dating back to his 2021 series debut at COTA, which resulted in victory. In his most recent TA outing at Road America, Brabham qualified on the pole and finished second to his team owner Dyson last June. He also drove to a top-10 finish at the track in an LMP2-class entry during the IMSA weekend last August. Past Road America outings for Brabham have featured an array of racing disciplines, including the INDY NXT series and Stadium Super Trucks.

Joining the TeamSLR contingent among this weekend’s field of 32 TA2 entries is a trio of fellow competitors in M1 Racecars equipment. Leading the way is defending CUBE 3 Architecture TA2 Series Pro-Am Challenge champion Jared Odrick of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and his No. 00 Black Underwear/Helium Mobile Chevrolet Camaro for Troy Benner Autosport. Odrick won four of the season’s first five races but fell victim to a rare mechanical issue in round six at Indianapolis that ended his day early. Odrick’s newest teammate Jace Denmark, a 23-year-old from Phoenix, will be back in the No. 68 TRB Autosport entry he drove to a fifth-place overall finish Sunday in his first outing with the team. Meanwhile, Southern Californian Tim Carroll, a regular TA2 Western Championship competitor in recent seasons, will be back in the national series field for the second weekend in a row behind the wheel of his No. 46 CRD MFG Inc. Chevrolet Camaro, which he qualified on the Pro-Am pole and drove to a runner-up finish Sunday at Indianapolis.

Riding along with TeamSLR drivers and their M1 Racecars this weekend are season-long partners Guthrie’s Garage, CUBE 3 Architecture and longtime supporters Franklin Road Apparel Company and Kallberg Racing.

TeamSLR also welcomed new partner Focal One® for the first time last weekend at Indianapolis. Focal One® is the leading robotic focal therapy platform in prostate cancer, leveraging advanced imaging, intelligent treatment planning, robotic precision, and high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) to deliver personalized, minimally invasive therapy. By enabling precise tissue targeting while helping preserve quality of life, Focal One is redefining the standard of care in focal therapy in prostate cancer.
This weekend’s Cheese Capital Cup kicks off Friday with a pair of TA2 test sessions set for 11:25 a.m. and 4:25 p.m. CDT. Saturday begins with official TA2 practice at 10:25 a.m., followed by qualifying at 3:15 p.m. Sunday’s 25-lap, 75-minute race kicks off at 12:30 p.m. with live television coverage available at no charge at RacingAmerica.TV, as well as the official Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli YouTube channel (@gotransam).

Helio Meza, Driver, No. 28 Alessandros Racing/Chevrolet/SLR-M1 Racecars Camaro:

You’ve raced at Road America in the past. How would you describe your experience there?
“I won the Spec MX-5 shootout there in 2023 and a scholarship to run that series with them in 2024. In those cars, it’s not really as fun with how slow those little guys go. They made for great drafting, great pack racing, but I think our TA2 cars will be pretty quick. As for the track, there’s not quite as much going on as at other tracks – two corners and a long straight, then two more corners and another long straight. It’s definitely got technical aspects to it, but they’re separated by some pretty long straights. The team’s been quick there, and we just keep getting better every race.”

Where would you say the hot spots are as you make a lap around Road America?

“The Carousel (turn 10) and the Kink (turn 11). The Kink is a very high-commitment corner. I will say, from an adrenaline rush standpoint, that one’s pretty fun just because you’re always on edge. And as the race goes on, it gets more and more slick, so you’re just flirting with wrecking or not. It’s really important to get a run onto every straightaway because, if you make a mistake, you have to live with it all the way through those long straights. Straight-line speed is going to be important, so that may sacrifice a little handling getting through the corners, but as long as you have the straight-line to get down the straights, you should be OK. And I think it’s going to be important to prep well because you don’t really get a lot of time, a lot of practice laps, because the laps are so long.”

What do you think about the racing spirit in that part of the country?

“It is pretty neat. The facility is really nice, and in the town of Elkhart Lake, everyone there knows about racing, so anytime you go race there, anytime you have people around that go to the racetrack, they’re all really big fans because the racetrack’s right there. They have the racecars parade into town on Friday night for a cheese festival, so it’ll be really cool to be a part of moments like that. The people have such a passion or our sport.”

Alon Day, Driver, No. 17 JSSI/SLR-M1 Racecars Chevrolet Camaro:

You got your first taste of Road America in your second career NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts (formerly Xfinity) Series race back in 2016. What do you remember about that weekend?

“I came to Road America the week after a really strong NASCAR Xfinity Series debut at Mid-Ohio, where I was leading the race at one point and finished 13th in an older, outdated racecar. At Road America, we ended up having to start from the back because of adjustments after qualifying, and the race result didn’t really reflect our performance. We were fighting our way toward the front for most of the race, but as often happens in NASCAR, things got pretty crazy on the final restart and I ended up getting dumped into the gravel.”

How would you describe the Road America layout?

“Road America has a lot of long straights, and the corners leading onto those straights are not easy, especially in places like the Carousel (turn 10) and the final corner (turn 14). So it’s really important to execute those corners well and carry as much speed as possible onto the straights. If you lose momentum there, you pay for it all the way down the straight. Otherwise, it’s a fast racetrack. I think it’s going to be a little similar to Indy, where you have to think about saving the brakes and tires, and also be careful not to sit in another car’s slipstream for too long. With the TA2 car, I think it will be a big challenge, but a fun one.”

You spend a majority of your time coaching young drivers, especially back home in Israel. What are your observations about your teenage teammates Helio Meza and Lanie Buice?

“They are both very hard-working drivers, and the results show that. The way they debrief after every session, chase every tenth of a second, and constantly try to improve the car shows that they are willing to go the extra mile to get results. That work ethic is clearly paying off. Helio is leading the championship right now and giving me a hard time, so they are definitely doing something right. I think the Josh Wise Chevy development program gives them a very strong structure. They come to each weekend prepared and focused, which is very important for young drivers. If they keep working this way, they both have a very strong future ahead of them.”

Lanie Buice, Driver, No. 27 Sunoco/Guthrie's Garage/Chevrolet/SLR-M1 Racecars Camaro:

You’ll be seeing Road America for the first time this weekend. What have you learned about the circuit from your preparation?

“It’s really unique. I feel like Road America is another one of those bucket-list places. It looks like it’s a lot of fun to drive, so I’m excited to go there for the first time. It’s got a lot of really unique corners, lots of sweeping corners. But then you have a lot of stop-and-goes. I’m really excited for the different types of corners we’re going to see this weekend versus last weekend at Indy, where it was more straightforward. I think Road America will be a lot of fun. There are lots of challenges and different things to learn, things that I can apply from what I learned at other tracks I’ve run.”

You had a solid, fifth-place run in the ARCA Menards Series race at Pocono two weekends ago, which has some similar characteristics as Road America with its three, distinct corners. Will that help you this weekend?

“Continuing on that theme of long straights leading into a slower corner or a really fast corner, yeah, I think that’s what I’m super excited about. It’s kind of funny, there’s a corner at Road America that’s kind of like the Tunnel Turn at Pocono, in a sense. So it’s cool to have that reference. I’m excited for the long straights, the technical corners here and there.”

How would you assess how far you’ve come as a road racer through your first seven TA2 Series starts?

“I see the progress I’ve made on and off the track. I think this is one of the most important things to work on at this point in my career. I feel confident about the progress that I’ve made on the road-course side of things, but it’s definitely still my weakest point, so I’ll just continue to work hard on the road-course stuff. Thankfully, it’s been really great with TeamSLR because I’ve been provided so much help and so much coaching. It can be frustrating at times. Obviously, I want to be finishing inside the top-five and I want to be competitive every single weekend, but it’s a learning curve, and I think I just have to be patient in the process and just continue putting in the work every single week.”

Matthew Brabham, Driver, No. 48 Roaring Pines Motor Club/SLR-M1 Racecars Chevrolet Camaro:

What brings you to TeamSLR for your first career CUBE 3 Architecture TA2 Series race?
“For many years, really ever since I joined Trans Am, in general, I’ve always wanted to have a go at a TA2 race. Obviously, I think the TA cars are by far the most fun to drive, and I still stick by that – I mean, the TA class, in terms of just the driving experience, nothing can beat it. But what is really appealing and attractive to me when I’ve looked at TA2 is the competition and the size of the field and the racing aspect seem stronger. It’s just more cars and it seems like they can run closer and side-by-side. I’m a racecar driver at the end of the day, so the big attraction for me is the competition and racing side-by-side. I just looked at who the top team was and it was TeamSLR. I spoke to Scott (Lagasse Jr.) at Road Atlanta and he was super open to the idea and trying to make it work, so here we are.”

What are your impressions of the TA2 car, in general?

“The TA2 obviously has less horsepower, smaller tires, less grip, and is probably more of a challenge to drive because you’ve got less grip. It’s definitely more like a stock car or like a NASCAR feel, and that’s kind of a newish world to me. It’ll be a new challenge for me and I don’t know how it’s going to go, whether I’m fast or not, but I’m very open-minded. It’ll be more so just doing it to have a go and have some fun with a new challenge. The plan is to try and adapt as quickly as possible. Every time I drive a racecar, I’m trying to win. But at the same time I understand that I haven’t raced those cars, and those guys are all very good. It’s hard to come in and beat people at their own game. Fortunately, I’ve adapted to a lot of other different racecars around the world, so I’m used to kind of being in that situation.”

You’ll be pulling double duty between the TA class car you’re driving for the full season, and the TeamSLR car. How challenging will it be to bounce back and forth multiple times each day, both mentally and physically?

“I think I’m good at that part. I think the mental side and adapting my driving style between the two cars on the same day, I have no problem with that because I’ve had bigger extremes in the past. I’ve done Stadium Super Trucks and Indy Lights in an open-wheel car on the same weekend. So, if anything, I’m used to that big swing and change of driving styles, and I’ve always been pretty good at that, and I feel like that’s no problem. But I’m 32, so the challenge is going to be staying hydrated enough and fit enough to do every session properly. That’s going to be my challenge. It’s going to be tough, and hopefully it’s not too hot. I think the challenge for me is just going to be making sure I’m hydrated and physically in it. I know for sure I’ll be OK mentally, it’s just definitely going to be a big physical weekend for me.”

The Turn One CRA Pro Series Presented by Chevrolet Performance Motor Mountain Masters 150 at Jennerstown Speedway Complex, in Jennerstown, Pennsylvania, originally scheduled for Saturday, June 27, 2026, has been postponed, due to forecasted weather conditions. Expected rainfall Friday evening through a large portion of Saturday has led to the postponement of the event. The race reschedule date, in late summer, will be announced in the coming days.

Officials have determined that the forecasted weather condition will likely prohibit the ability to conduct the event, in its entirety, to deliver the best possible experience for fans and teams. The decision made to postpone the event on Thursday comes as a result of above average travel expenses for many of the over 20 race teams on the entry list, scheduled to participate in the speedway’s marquee event.

The next event for CRA is the Fire Suppression Solutions 100 at Slinger Super Speedway on Monday, July 13.

TRANS AM RETURNS TO ITS MOST FREQUENTED RACETRACK:

The Trans Am Series by Pirelli is returning to Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin this weekend to take on the 14-corner, 4.048-mile behemoth that is Road America. A total of four different races – the Trans Am by Pirelli, CUBE 3 Architecture TA2 Series, and two TA Sprint events – will mark races No. 68, 69, 70, and 71 for Trans Am at the historic racetrack, by far the most of any facility.

Trans Am’s inaugural race at Road America happened on July 19, 1970, when Mark Donohue, piloting the No. 6 AMC Javelin, drove to victory over Swede Savage in his Plymouth Barracuda AAR-50211 and Sam Posey in his Dodge Challenger.

TA CUP TO CROWN A CHAMPION AT ROAD AMERICA

This weekend at Road America, the inaugural season of the Trans Am by Pirelli TA Cup Championship will be wrapped up, as the division crowns its first-ever champion at the end of Sunday’s 25-lap or 75-minute event.

Cole Moore (No. 99 JM Environmental / Moore Motorsports Ford Mustang) enters the weekend as the TA Cup Championship points leader over Jim Guthrie (No. 62 Guthrie’s Garage Ford Mustang), with an advantage of 14 points heading into the finale. Ken Thwaits (No. 9 Franklin Road Apparel Chevrolet Camaro) sits third in standings, 45 points behind.

Moore, Guthrie, and Thwaits will be joined by two other drivers in the TA Cup Class this weekend at Road America; Ken Sutherland and David Kunicki, who sit eighth and ninth in series point standings after debuting last weekend at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

MATTHEW BRABHAM PULLS BACK AHEAD IN BATTLE FOR TA CLASS TITLE

Following his return to the top step of the podium at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Matthew Brabham has further extended his lead in the battle for the Trans Am by Pirelli TA Class Championship over Paul Menard. The 2011 Brickyard 400 winner had closed the gap to within six points with his victory at Lime Rock Park – while Brabham finished fifth with a mechanical issue – but after finishing a distant third at Indy, the No. 3 Pittsburgh Paints / Menards Ford Mustang drops to 18 points behind Brabham.

PAUL MENARD CONTINUES SEARCH FOR ELUSIVE HOME STATE WIN

The weekend ahead is a pretty important one for Paul Menard, a title contender in the Trans Am by Pirelli TA Class Championship and a native of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, as the driver of the No. 3 Pittsburgh Paints / Menards Ford Mustang looks to finally secure the home state win that has eluded him since joining Trans Am.

Menard has five Trans Am starts at Road America (2002, 2003, 2022, 2024, and 2025) and on two separate occasions has finished runner-up to Poncho Weaver’s No. 2 Dodge Challenger – once driven by Kaz Grala (2022) and later driven by Brent Crews (2024). The 45-year-old driver has won at the 4.048-mile road course twice throughout his career – 2001 in the NASCAR RE/MAX Challenge Series and in 2015 in the NASCAR XFINITY Series.

Could this be the weekend where Menard finally earns that Trans Am win at Road America, and at the same time, asserts his dominance in the championship battle against Matthew Brabham?

HELIO MEZA RETURNS TO WINNERS CIRCLE; CONTINUES DOMINANT SEASON

There is NOTHING that can keep 18-year-old Helio Meza down. After his first less-than-perfect performance at Lime Rock Park, where the driver of the Team SLR No. 28 finished a respectable seventh in the extremely difficult wet conditions, the Spring, Texas-native bounced back immediately. Meza dominated the weekend at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, winning the pole, leading every lap, and winning the race – his sixth in the CUBE 3 Architecture TA2 Series – and extending his points lead to a massive 56-point advantage over Alon Day.

TA SPRINT RETURNS TO ACTION THIS WEEKEND AT ROAD AMERICA

This weekend’s Trans Am by Pirelli festivities at Road America will include a third (and fourth) feature event on Sunday, June 28, as the TA Sprint division returns to action for a doubleheader weekend at the 4.048-mile road course in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin. There are currently four drivers on the entry list for both events, which will last 13 laps or 40 minutes, whichever comes first.

John Atwell (No. 02 XRC / DFW Concrete / A&J Lab Portal Ford Mustang) was the inaugural winner of the TA Sprint division in its season-opener at Sebring International Speedway and will return to Road America this weekend to defend his victory. Rob Kacprowicz (No. 27 5x5 Brewing Ford Mustang) and Bryce Raymond (No. 54 Sublimate Technologies Ford Mustang) are also returning from Sebring. Brad McAllister (No. 24 Periodontal Associates Ford Mustang) will make his debut in the division on Sunday.

CHEESE CAPITAL CUP PROCESSION GIVES FANS AN UP-CLOSE LOOK AT TRANS AM

On Friday, June 26, fans of the Trans Am Series by Pirelli will be given a one-of-a-kind opportunity to receive a closer look at the series and its stars, during the Cheese Capital Cup Procession. The procession (beginning at 5:45 PM) travels from Road America to Stayer Park in Plymouth, where the Plymouth Cheese Capital Festival is taking place. Once the procession arrives, fans will have the unique opportunity to view the cars, meet the drivers, and take photos. The goal is simple: bring the energy of Road America into the community and give fans a personal connection with the cars, drivers, and teams.

POINT STANDINGS

Michael Bumgarner and winning are synonymous as the North Carolina resident claimed victories in half of the races in which he competed during the Kulwicki Driver Development Program’s first segment.

The 22-year-old Taylorsville, N.C., resident finished KDDP’s first segment second in the standings, just three points behind leader Carson Haislip.

Since joining KDDP, Bumgarner has won three of six races, produced five top-five finishes and placed outside the top three only twice. He also won a race this year before being selected as a KDDP finalist or “Underbird,” giving him four victories in 2026. He obtained his 11th consecutive victory this year, a run that began in July 2025.

“(We) hope to keep building on our progress,” said Bumgarner, who leads the Late Model standings at Hickory (N.C.) Motor Speedway.

Bumgarner has used Alan Kulwicki’s signature “Polish Victory Lap” to celebrate two of his victories. His upcoming races include the June 27 race at South Boston (Va.) Speedway, which is the first event in the Virginia Late Model Triple Crown, and the July 17 zMAX CARS Tour race at North Wilkesboro (N.C.) Speedway.

Off the track, Bumgarner was a career day guest at Millersville Christian Academy. He also has partnered with Cardinal Kids, which is a community-based, specialized pediatric palliative and hospice care program operated by Carolina Caring. It serves children from birth through young adulthood who are facing serious, chronic, or life-limiting medical conditions. Bumgarner is participating in various fundraising events, including a charity golf tournament.

This year, members of Alan Kulwicki’s championship team and veteran drivers are mentoring the “Underbirds.” Bumgarner’s mentor is Daytona 500 winner Ryan Newman.

KDDP: Created in 2014 by Alan Kulwicki’s family to perpetuate the NASCAR Hall of Fame member and 1992 NASCAR Cup champion’s legacy, the Kulwicki Driver Development Program has had 50 drivers from 18 states, and two Canadian provinces compete in the North American initiative. Even though the program was suspended in 2020 due to the COVID pandemic, it still has awarded $1,044,902 in scholarships and championship awards. Overall, the 10 classes have competed in 1,514 races, produced 238 victories, and 750 top-five and 1,098 top-10 finishes. Ty Majeski, the 2024 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series champion, was the program’s inaugural winner.

Carson Haislip’s success at Wake County (N.C.) Speedway has resulted in the Raleigh, N.C., driver taking a narrow lead over Michael Bumgarner at the end of the Kulwicki Driver Development Program’s opening segment.

Haislip leads Bumgarner by a mere three points.

In eight races this year, Haislip has recorded four victories, six top-five and seven top-10 finishes.

“I think so far our season has gone as well as it can,” Haislip said. “We have had really great races and had some that helped us learn. I think it’s always good to lose some rather than winning, because of what it teaches you.”

Haislip hasn’t confined his racing to Late Models at Wake County Speedway. He made his SMART Modified Tour debut in April when that series visited Wake County Speedway. Haislip claimed the pole for that event and then finished 12th in the 20-car field.

“It’s something I had never done before and it was a super cool moment for me,” Haislip said.

“Off the track, the biggest moment for me has been watching all the newer drivers I coach succeed on the race track and do better for themselves. It is very cool to me to watch people grow and develop, especially when you’re the mentor.”

The 18-year-old Haislip said representing KDDP and Alan Kulwicki’s legacy had taught him the importance of “hard work, determination, and always doing things the right way.”

“Alan Kulwicki was known for his dedication and perseverance, and being connected to that legacy motivates me to give my best both on-and-off the track,” Haislip said.

Haislip listed his charities as Make-A-Wish, the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina, and the Pooch Pad Foundation. Based in Fuquay-Varina, N.C., the Pooch Pad Foundation’s goal is to create a strong, safer community where pets are protected and people in need are supported.

This year, members of Alan Kulwicki’s 1992 championship team and veteran drivers are mentoring the “Underbirds.” Haislip’s mentor is Cal Lawson, who was Kulwicki’s team manager and race strategist.

Adding racing royalty to an already historic weekend, the Freedom 250 Grand Prix today announced the addition of the legendary International Race of Champions (IROC), bringing together an all-star lineup of motorsports icons for a special exhibition during the Aug. 22-23 event on the streets of Washington D.C.

The IROC Presented by Chevrolet lineup for the Freedom 250 Grand Prix weekend will feature a star-studded collection of motorsports legends, including champions and some of the biggest stars in NASCAR and INDYCAR history. Former NASCAR Cup Series champions Jeff Gordon, Kurt Busch, Bobby Labonte, Rusty Wallace and Bill Elliott will race on the 1.7-mile Freedom 250 Grand Prix street circuit around the National Mall, alongside INDYCAR greats and Indianapolis 500 champions Tony Kanaan, Helio Castroneves and Dario Franchitti. The drivers will compete in authentic IROC Pontiac Firebirds that raced in series competition from 1996 through 2006.

With the addition of IROC, the Freedom 250 Grand Prix weekend will deliver an unmatched combination of past and present, as legends of the sport return to the spotlight alongside today’s racing stars competing in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES. With world-class racing from INDYCAR and IROC set against the backdrop of some of America’s most historic landmarks, the Freedom 250 Grand Prix will provide a once-in-a-lifetime celebration of America’s 250th birthday.

Originally launched in 1973, IROC gained worldwide recognition as a premier all-star competition, uniting top drivers from racing disciplines including NASCAR, INDYCAR, Formula 1 and sports car racing to compete in identical cars, placing the focus entirely on driver skill. NASCAR Hall of Famer Ray Evernham and Rob Kauffman acquired the rights to the IROC brand and revived the series, bringing some of racing’s living legends together for special exhibition races at select motorsports events.

“The Freedom 250 Grand Prix weekend represents a truly unique opportunity for motorsports and our country,” said Ray Evernham, Co-Principal of IROC. “To see INDYCAR and IROC race on such hallowed ground, against the backdrop of some of our nation's most iconic landmarks, will be something truly special for competitors and fans alike. We are honored to have IROC included in the festivities and we look forward to putting on a great show for the fans.”

The addition of IROC enhances an already dynamic weekend in the nation’s capital, offering fans a rare opportunity to see some of the sport’s most celebrated champions compete in a format that has long been regarded as the “champion of champions” showdown.

The IROC legends will practice and race on the Freedom 250 Grand Prix street circuit on Saturday, Aug. 22. The former INDYCAR and NASCAR star drivers competing in the Freedom 250 Grand Prix IROC race will also host a free autograph session for fans on Saturday.

“We are proud to welcome the International Race of Champions to the Freedom 250 Grand Prix weekend, as we honor racing history by bringing some of the sport’s greatest heroes to this already legendary weekend,” said Bud Denker, Chairman of the Freedom 250 Grand Prix. “IROC has always represented the best of the best, bringing together champions from across motorsports to compete on equal footing. From the current INDYCAR stars to former NASCAR and INDYCAR champions, the Freedom 250 Grand Prix will be a celebration of racing’s past and present competing at one of the most iconic settings in the world.”

Set against the backdrop of the National Mall, the Freedom 250 Grand Prix will mark the first-ever NTT INDYCAR SERIES race on the streets of Washington, D.C., serving as a centerpiece of the national celebration of the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. The free, two-day motorsports festival is expected to attract hundreds of thousands of fans to the nation’s capital, blending North America’s premier open-wheel racing series with historic pageantry.

The 1.7-mile, seven-turn Freedom 250 Grand Prix course will wind through the heart of Washington, D.C., circling the National Mall with cars racing alongside some of the most iconic landmarks in the world. The street circuit will feature a high-speed 0.4-mile run down Pennsylvania Avenue, dramatically framed by the Washington Monument and the U.S. Capitol. Pit lane will sit just off the straight between Turns 1 and 2, keeping the crews and cars at the center of the action. The drivers will speed past landmarks including the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, the National Gallery of Art and the National Archives, creating a course that blends technical challenge with an unmistakable and historic backdrop.

The yourBIGplans.com 500 Sprint Car Tour heads to Winchester Speedway for the second points paying race of the season. There is no shortage of storylines as the tour enters the Tom Bigelow Showdown presented by Neal Metal Recycling and Processing.

Tom Bigelow is more than a Racing Hero

In honor of the man they call the “Mouse”, the yourBIGplans.com 500 Sprint Car Tour returns to the second home of racing legend, Tom Bigelow, for the second consecutive year. Playing a major role in the return of non wing pavement sprint cars to the high banks of Winchester Speedway, Bigelow was honored by the track and series with the naming of the yearly event. Since his retirement from racing, Bigelow and his wife, Judy, have resided in Winchester, Indiana and remained a prominent fixture in Midwest Short Track Racing. A multiple time inductee to various Hall of Fames, Bigelow has been the beating heart of pavement sprint car and pavement midget racing. He asked for non-wing sprint cars to return to Winchester, and he got it. Now, they are back for a second consecutive year.

Swanson is on Fire

Even after admitting he has started to slow down the driving side of his career while taking on the role of director of the USAC Silver Crown Series, Kody Swanson continues to perform at an elite level. In 2026, the veteran put together one of the most impressive seasons of his storied career. Swanson opened the year by dominating the Glen Niebel Classic at Anderson Speedway, leading every lap of the 500 Sprint Car Tour season opener. He then added another major victory by capturing the 78th Annual Unified Group Services Little 500, his fourth career triumph in the prestigious event.

Swanson's winning ways continued with a Race for the Million victory, proving he remains one of pavement sprint car racing's premier talents. While his responsibilities off the track continue to grow, the results on the track show that Kody Swanson is still setting the standard for excellence in 2026. He now returns to Winchester Speedway for the Tom Bigelow Showdown as the defending race winner, looking to add another prestigious victory to an already remarkable season.

Chase Cabre makes first 500 Sprint Car Tour Start with AP Driver Development

Chase Cabre will make his first non-wing sprint car start this weekend with the AP Driver Development program. While his experience in winged sprint cars has been limited, he has already shown flashes of strong pace in each opportunity. Cabre turned heads earlier this season by qualifying on the pole for the Race for the Million event at Owosso Speedway. He also impressed many in the Open Wheel Showdown last November, consistently running competitive laps against seasoned veterans. The transition to non-wing machinery marks a new challenge, but one he appears well-prepared for based on early results. All eyes will be on Cabre at Winchester Speedway to see how quickly he adapts to one of pavement racing’s toughest disciplines.

Armstrong bringing new car to Winchester Speedway

Dakoda Armstrong enters Winchester Speedway carrying plenty of momentum after a strong 2025 season. This weekend, Armstrong will debut a sprint car his team built during the offseason specifically for winged competition. Last year, Armstrong competed in the two half-mile events at Winchester and Salem driving the No. 7C owned by Randy Neal. He turned in an impressive performance, finishing third at Winchester before scoring a victory at Salem Speedway later in the season. That car driven by Justin Grant suffered heavy damage during the Little 500, prompting the team to focus its efforts on the new car for the Winchester event. With a proven record on Indiana's high-banked half miles, Armstrong will be among the favorites when the green flag drops on the Tom Bigelow Showdown.

Hamilton Jr. is back and looking for Redemption

Davey Hamilton Jr. returns to Winchester Speedway looking to put the disappointment of 2025 behind him. In last year’s event, Hamilton Jr. set the pace early by winning the pole and leading the first 18 laps of the race. His strong run came to an abrupt end when an oil leak forced him to retire from a dominant position. The early exit left him frustrated after showing winning speed on the high banks of Winchester. Now, he comes back with unfinished business and renewed focus for the Tom Bigelow Showdown. Hamilton Jr. will be making his second non-wing start after a strong runner-up finish at the Little 500, giving him added confidence heading into the weekend.

Byrdman back in the Saddle

Nathan Byrd, along with Myers Auto Research, will be making their season debut with the yourBIGplans.com 500 Sprint Car Tour. Byrd, a co-owner in the series’ Entitlement Sponsor, will carry the yourBIGplans.com banner on his car for this event and the remainder of the 2026 season. Partnering with his twin brother, Noah, the Byrd Brothers launched the yourBIGplans.com to level the playing field, using data, strategy, and a fundamentally different approach to insurance benefits.

Nathan Byrd has been a fixture on the 500 Sprint Car Tour entry lists for the past two seasons. The Goodyear, Arizona native has made 16 starts with the 500 Sprint Car Tour, including a total of 15 starts since the start of the 2024 racing season. He has a best finish of 5th place twice in his 500 Sprint Car Tour career, coming in consecutive events in 2025. The first came at Winchester Speedway in the Inaugural Tom Bigelow Showdown. Byrd will be looking to replicate that pace as he returns to the track, and the series, for the first time in 2026.

Race Information

The 2nd Annual Neal Metal Recycling & Processing Tom Bigelow Showdown is set for Sunday, June 28th at Winchester Speedway in Winchester, Indiana. The event will feature the yourBIGplans.com 500 Sprint Car Tour, Thunder Roadsters, and the HRA Late Model Sportsman. Pit gates will open at 8:00am, front gates will open at 10:00am, practice is scheduled for 10:15am, and racing is set to begin at 2:30pm. The event will be streamed live on Racing America, and pre-sale tickets for the event can be purchased online by clicking HERE.

Kiwi Motorsport, a Chip Ganassi Racing Driver Development program, continued its strong 2026 FR Americas Championship campaign this past weekend at the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway, collecting multiple podium finishes and valuable championship points during the fourth round of the season. The team fielded a two-car lineup featuring championship contender Cooper Shipman and teammate Harbir Dass as they took on the iconic road course at one of motorsport's most legendary venues.

Shipman opened the weekend with a podium finish in Race One, crossing the line third after a hard-fought battle near the front of the field. Dass added to the team's point haul with a tenth-place result. Race Two proved even stronger for Kiwi Motorsport. Shipman once again found himself in podium contention and finished second, while Dass delivered one of his best performances of the season, finishing fourth and narrowly missing out on a podium of his own. The final race of the weekend saw both drivers continue their consistency. Shipman secured another top-five result with a fourth-place finish, while Dass followed closely behind in sixth.

Across the three-race weekend, Kiwi Motorsport accumulated two podium finishes and six top-ten results, further strengthening its position in the FR Americas championship battle.

"Indianapolis was another strong weekend for our FR Americas drivers,” expressed Teena Larsen. “Cooper continued to show the speed and consistency that has kept him near the top of the championship standings all season, and Harbir put together one of his strongest weekends of the year with several excellent results. The entire team executed well from start to finish, and it's rewarding to see all the hard work paying off. We'll take the positives from Indianapolis and carry that momentum into Laguna Seca this weekend."

With the Indianapolis event complete, Kiwi Motorsport will immediately shift its focus westward for the next round of the Formula Pro USA Western Championship at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. As Kiwi Motorsport continues a busy summer schedule, the team heads to California looking to build upon another successful weekend and add more podium finishes to its growing 2026 campaign.

For more information on Kiwi Motorsport or the Chip Ganassi Racing Driver Development program, please contact Teena Larsen via email to kiwimotorsportnz@gmail.com.

Undeterred by the setback, Papasavvas delivered one of the best drives of the weekend. Starting 15th, he methodically worked his way through the field, gaining 13 positions to finish second and salvage valuable championship points. His impressive charge through the field was further rewarded, as the fastest lap from Race One earned him pole position for Race Two.

Papasavvas capitalized on the opportunity and led much of the second race, controlling the pace for nearly two-thirds of the event. Unfortunately, a failed rear bar affected the handling of his Crosslink Motorsports machine during the closing stages, forcing him to settle for a third-place finish despite having the pace to contend for victory.

The final race of the weekend saw Papasavvas line up second on the grid. Once again, he remained in the fight at the front of the field and crossed the finish line in second, completing a triple-podium weekend at one of the most iconic venues in motorsports.

Despite missing out on a victory, the results allowed Papasavvas to continue adding to his championship total as the season approaches its second half.

"It wasn't exactly the weekend we wanted when we arrived at Indianapolis,” explained Evagoras. “Sometimes championships are about maximizing the days when things don't go your way. Starting at the back after qualifying third was frustrating and then having the rear bar issue while leading Race Two was tough to swallow. That said, the team gave me a great car all weekend, and we were still able to come away with three podiums and a lot of championship points. We'll take the positives, keep working, and come back stronger for the next round."

As the championship battle intensifies, Papasavvas remains firmly in contention and will look to continue his consistent run of podium finishes when the series resumes later this summer. With Indianapolis now in the rearview mirror, Papasavvas and Crosslink Motorsports will enjoy a brief break before returning to FR Americas competition at New Jersey Motorsports Park July 31-August 2.

Virginia native Chase Johnson admits he struggled on-track during the Kulwicki Driver Development Program’s first segment, but he still put together a performance that allowed him to secure third place in the standings.

The 18-year-old Midlothian, Va., resident is still searching for his first victory this season, but he has recorded eight top-five and nine top-10 finishes in 14 races this year.

“We have struggled finding speed to begin the season,” said Johnson, who produced three straight second-place finishes during the first segment. “We have been keeping the car in one piece, finishing as best as we can until we can find the speed we are looking for.”

Johnson is one of two Virginia drivers selected as a KDDP finalist this year.

Currently, he has his sights set on the Virginia Late Model Triple Crown. The first race in the series is June 27 at South Boston Speedway with the second set for July 25 at Langley Speedway.

Johnson said KDDP has impacted him on-and-off the track, making him a better person and a more professional race car driver.

When Johnson isn’t racing, he helps the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. During KDDP’s first segment, he donated 650 pounds of dog and cat food to the SPCA’s Richmond, Va., chapter.

This year, members of Alan Kulwicki’s championship team and veteran drivers are mentoring the “Underbirds.” Johnson’s mentor is Danny Cameron, who was an assistant in the engine shop and the team’s spotter on race day.

“He has been a great person to talk to,” Johnson said about Cameron. “His Alan Kulwicki stories are second to none.”

The drivers occupying first and second in the standings after the first segment will be announced Thursday.

TopLiner™ driver Martin Ragginger waged an exhilarating, heart-pounding duel aboard the No. 7 Chevrolet Camaro, relentlessly challenging Matthew Brabham for supremacy at the head of the TA Class field. The race was held on Father’s Day, June 21, at the legendary Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Despite the Burtin Racing team ultimately settling for a hard-earned second-place, the result delivered a powerful statement.

It marked the second podium finish of the season for both TopLiner™ and Ragginger, building on his strong third-place performance in the season opener at Sebring International Raceway. More significantly, the result signaled a major leap forward for the TopLiner™ program, as the sophisticated second-generation Burtin Racing chassis truly came alive under Ragginger’s expert command.

Developing the new Burtin Racing car has been a meticulous and innovative journey, marked by the team’s unwavering dedication, rigorous testing, and relentless hard work. The result is a standout performance from the latest-generation TopLiner™ Chevrolet Camaro, which demonstrated its exceptional pace and competitiveness on one of motorsport’s most iconic stages. From the moment the green flag dropped, Ragginger asserted himself at the front of the field, applying consistent pressure on race leader Brabham while expertly showcasing the speed, balance, and precision of the TopLiner™ machine.

The battle intensified as Ragginger mounted a sensational challenge. Navigating heavy lapped traffic with precision, the Austrian driver executed a daring three-wide move on the frontstretch of the iconic IMS oval to seize the lead with 21 laps remaining. Ragginger then commanded the field for 14 electrifying laps, delivering a masterclass performance that kept victory at the Brickyard firmly in sight—until traffic interference ultimately allowed Brabham to slip past on the outside in the closing stages of the race.

Despite narrowly missing the win, the podium result demonstrated the tremendous performance and after taking the second-place spot Ragginger commented, “Big thank you to the team, Burtin Racing and TopLiner™. I think we still have so much potential with this new car, but being competitive this weekend meant a lot to the whole team, to the guys who have built this car for so many years and to us drivers. Thank you to Adam for testing the car – it is still such a very new car, but we are definitely going in the right direction. I’m just grateful to be part of this whole program, and hopefully I can do a few more races.”

Team principal Claudio Burtin reflected after the race, “We’re kind of happy and disappointed at the same time. I think we had a fast race car and Martin is a great driver. It’s just one of those things – back traffic caused him to have to make an abrupt decision and jump the curb a little bit. Sometimes that’s all it takes at this level of competition. The field is so precise and so competitive that even the smallest hiccup can decide the final result.”

Over on the west coast, on the spectacular Qualcomm Circuit at Coronado Naval Base, Adam Andretti played a full part in an exhilarating race in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series where he piloted the No. 5 TopLiner™ TRICON Toyota TRD to a highly creditable P14 out of 35 competitors racing on the street circuit. Adam is really finding his feet in the high-profile NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, which was televised on FS1, providing great coverage for TopLiner™.

One of the most prestigious names in Midwest open-wheel racing will once again be honored when the YourBIGplans.com 500 Sprint Car Tour visits Winchester Speedway on Sunday, June 28, for the second running of the Tom Bigelow Showdown.

Named in honor of racing legend Tom Bigelow, the event pays tribute to one of short track racing’s most accomplished drivers, whose career included numerous starts at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, sitting atop the USAC National Sprint Car ranks, and a memorable run in the Indianapolis 500. The inaugural Tom Bigelow Showdown in 2025 was captured by reigning Little 500 champion Kody Swanson, and the Kingsburg, California native returns looking to defend both his Winchester title and his Little 500 crown.

Swanson headlines a strong field of 19 entries assembled for the yourBIGplans.com 500 Sprint Car Tour event on the historic high banks of Winchester Speedway. Driving the No. 33 machine for Nick Bohanon, Swanson enters as one of the favorites after adding another Little 500 victory to his legendary resume in May.

Joining Swanson is NASCAR veteran and Indiana native Ryan Newman, who will pilot the No. 39 Ed Martin Ford entry for Ryan Newman Motorsports. Newman has become a familiar face in pavement sprint car competition in recent seasons and will make another appearance on the high-speed half-mile where experience and patience are often rewarded.

Massachusetts standout Bobby Santos III returns aboard the No. 22 DJ Racing machine. Santos, one of the most versatile drivers in short-track racing, is always a threat on pavement and brings years of USAC and modified success to Winchester.

A talented mix of veterans and rising stars rounds out the field. Former USAC Silver Crown winner Davey Hamilton Jr. will compete in the No. 14 for Kirk Morgan Racing, while recent Little 500 Front Row Starter Jackson Macenko returns in the Brad Hayes Racing No. 24. Indiana favorites Donnie Adams Jr., Rob Keesling, Tony McVey, Justin Harper, and Tony Main are among the Hoosier drivers expected to challenge for the victory.

Ohio standouts Olivia Shelbo and Cord Ehrhart, North Carolina's Brady Allum, and Arizona’s Nathan Byrd add additional depth to a field that stretches coast-to-coast.

Byrd, driver of the No. 40 YourBIGplans.com entry for Meyer Auto Research, will represent the title sponsor in pursuit of his first series victory, while Anderson native Colin Grissom, Greenfield racers Tim Creech and Rylan Gray, and Florida's Colton Bettis complete the current entry list.

With Bigelow's legacy serving as the backdrop and a field loaded with proven winners and fan favorites, the second annual Tom Bigelow Showdown promises another thrilling chapter in the history of Winchester Speedway.

Practice and qualifying will set the stage before the green flag waves on the Tom Bigelow Showdown presented by Neal Metal Recycling & Processing on Sunday, June 28, as the stars of the YourBIGplans.com 500 Sprint Car Tour battle on the world's fastest half-mile.

Tom Bigelow Showdown presented by Neal Metal Recycling & Processing Entry List

Being from NASCAR Cup champion Alan Kulwicki’s home state and a finalist in the Kulwicki Driver Development Program had a deep impact on Penn Sauter during the program’s first segment.

A third-generation racer and Wisconsin native, Penn Sauter said that being from NASCAR Cup champion Alan Kulwicki’s home state and a finalist in the Kulwicki Driver Development Program had a deep impact on him during the program’s first segment.

“Going to races and the race tracks that he built his legacy at, and interacting with people that raced with him or have watched him race has been very cool,” said Sauter, the son of 2016 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series champion Johnny Sauter. “From my dad getting to watch Alan on the hill at Kaukauna to hearing stories about his legacy, (it) truly is an honor representing the program, especially being the only Wisconsin driver this year.”

The 16-year-old Sauter, who is fourth in the KDDP standings after the program’s first segment, has had a roller-coaster season. While having a fast car, Sauter has often been in the wrong place at the wrong time.

“Overall, we have had great speed, setting fast time twice this year, one being at the ASA Midwest Tour race in Norway, Mich.,” Sauter said. “We have been close battling for the lead multiple times this year, including the Joe Shear Classic at Madison International Speedway with the ASA Midwest Tour and Wisconsin International Speedway with the Tundra Series.”

When Sauter isn’t at the track, he is raising money for Burn Camp. During the KDDP’s first segment, Sauter attended a Professional Firefighters of Wisconsin Burn Ball. The annual event brings together first responders and community supporters to raise money for burn survivors, medical treatment programs and mental health support for firefighters.

“The Fireman’s Ball gave me the opportunity to find a deeper connection to this cause,” said Sauter, the only Super Late Model driver in KDDP this year.

Before a race, Sauter has a raffle basket and goodies for those who make donations to Burn Camp. During the fall, he will turn his attention to raising money for breast cancer awareness.

This year, members of Alan Kulwicki’s championship team and veteran drivers are mentoring the “Underbirds.” Sauter’s mentor is Brian Whitesell, an engineer who worked on special projects for Kulwicki’s team before joining Hendrick Motorsports.

“It has been extremely helpful to have someone to turn to when I have questions that don’t just pertain to racing and the car … to turn to for interview tips, social media tips, and everything to do with becoming not only a better driver, but also a better person,” Sauter said about Whitesell.

The driver occupying third in the standings after the first segment will be announced Wednesday.
