A tradition nearly 50 years in the making continues this week at Ohio's Sandusky Speedway, as the ISMA/MSS Supermodifieds compete in the Hy-Miler Nationals.
The event is one of the crown jewels of the Supermodified racing scene. It began in 1978, when Larry Boos took over as promoter of Sandusky Speedway. Last year, Otto Sitterly earned his first win in the marquee event, adding to his impressive Supermodified resume.
Four nights of racing lead up to this year's Hy-Miler Nationals at Sandusky, beginning on Wednesday, July 23. The Must See Racing Sprint Series presented by Perfit-Parts.com kicks off the Hy-Miler Week of Speed with the Bob Frey Classic. Bobby Santos, III won this event one year ago in the build-up to the Hy-Miler Nationals.
Thursday night is all about the fans at Sandusky Speedway. With $1 admission and concession specials for those in attendance, it will be a fun and affordable night for the whole family. There will be no shortage of racing, with the Midwest Truck Tour, Grand Nationals, Factory Stocks, Warriors and North Coast Vintage Oval Racers on track starting at 7:30 p.m. ET.
The ISMA/MSS Supermodifieds hit the track on Friday, July 25 with the Fast 40. The Fast 40 is a precursor to Saturday's Hy-Miler Nationals for the Supermodified competitors. On Saturday, July 26, it's 100 laps for the Hy-Miler Nationals in pursuit of the win in one of the biggest races of the year.
Mike McVetta, the 2021 Hy-Miler winner, enters the weekend leading the IMSA/MSS Supermodified Series points. McVetta won the series' most recent event, taking the checkered flag on Night 2 of the Great Lakes Classic at Michigan's Berlin Raceway.
Other former Hy-Miler winners on the list of anticipated entries include four-time winner Dave Shullick, Jr., three-time winners Joe Gosek and Mike Ordway, Jr., 2023 winner Jeff Abold and 2010 winner Mark Sammut.
Former NASCAR Cup Series competitor and Xfinity Series champion Johnny Benson, Jr. is also among the expected entries for the Hy-Miler Nationals. Benson finished on the podium in the 2023 edition of the event, his best showing in the race thus far in 12 starts.
Fans unable to attend this can't-miss Supermodified event will be able to watch live on RacingAmerica.TV. Click here to subscribe today and watch all four nights of racing from Sandusky Speedway, including the Hy-Miler Nationals.
