A large field of cars is headed to Ona Speedway on Saturday, May 10 for the Bryce Keyser Fly By 80 presented by Freedom Used Auto, including a former NASCAR Cup Series race winner.
More than 30 entries have been submitted for the Vores Compact Touring Series powered by Mercer County Electric event in Ona, West Virginia. Among the entrants is Ken Schrader, a four-time race winner in the NASCAR Cup Series during a career that spanned the better part of three decades.
While his last NASCAR Cup Series event was in 2013, Schrader has kept a busy racing schedule ever since, mostly in the dirt racing world. However, he'll make his return for a second Vores Compact Touring Series event, and his first since 2020.
Schrader will be part of a field of 32 drivers in Saturday's Fly By 80. The Ona stop for the Vores Compact Touring Series is always an exciting one, as the touring competitors from the Midwest-based series battle against Ona's local Compact racers.
Barboursville, West Virginia's Tim Cassidy has won two of the three Vores Compact Touring Series events held at Ona since the tour's inaugural visit in 2021. Another West Virginia native, Nick Fowler, won in 2022.
Six different states are represented on the list of 32 drivers entered for Saturday's Bryce Keyser Fly By 80 presented by Freedom Used Auto. The full entry list can be viewed below.
This will also be the first event at Ona since several new sections of asphalt were put down over the offseason. That will present a new challenge for locals and Vores regulars alike, as they adjust to the higher speeds of the new racing surface.
Pit gates will open at 1:00 pm ET on Saturday, with general admission gates opening at 5:00 pm. Racing will begin at 6:30 pm. General admission is $15 for ages 13 and up and free for ages 12 and under.
