JACKSONVILLE, NC – Over two dozen Mini Stocks are expected to compete in Saturday’s HetuStrong Race Against Cancer at Goodyear All American Speedway – a race that will raise awareness and funds for cancer research.

A stacked entry list includes names such as A.J. Sanders, who is one of the most decorated Mini Stock drivers in history, local standouts Brandon Clements and Travis Miller, Virginia’s Jesse Jones, Chuck Wall, Shane Canipe, Robert Strimska, and Michael Tucker, among others.

Swansboro’s Brandon Clements enters the race as both a popular fan favorite and a driver that will be in contention for the win on Saturday. In last year’s Carolina Mini Stock Summer Nationals, Clements was leading the race and appeared to have the win until mechanical gremlins sidelined his dominant performance halfway through the race.

“I’m really looking forward to racing at Goodyear All American Speedway this weekend with the Carolina Mini Stock Challenge,” Clements said. “I feel like we had this race in the bag last year until a mechanical failure took us out so, coming back, we’re looking for some redemption this weekend. It will be tough with what’s looking to be a stacked field of drivers. These guys are the best. Whoever comes out on top will have to earn it for sure.”

25 drivers have already signed up to compete in the Carolina Mini Stock Challenge portion of the HetuStrong Race Against Cancer, with strong fields expected in the Bomber and Legends classes.

The HetuStrong Race Against Cancer is being held in memory of the late Ronnie Hetu, a former Mini Stock racer who considered Goodyear All American Speedway, then called Coastal Plains Raceway, his home track. Hetu passed away on March 11, 2021, after a lengthy battle with cancer.

“Ronnie was a good friend and competitor for a long time,” Clements stated. “It’s an honor to be able to race in his memory this weekend. He was a big supporter of the Mini Stock class and I know it will be a great show to honor a great man.”

Tickets for the event are available at the gate on race day for $15 for adults, $5 for kids ages 6-12 and kids five (5) and under are admitted free. Active and retired military, seniors, and students can get in for just $12 with ID.

The green flag will fly at 3:00 pm EDT. The Richlands High School marching band will perform the national anthem as well as during an intermission period prior to the start of the main event.
