Five Flags Speedway hosted its annual Meet the Drivers Night on Friday.

Having fans of all ages come up and ask for an autograph, photo or just pass along well wishes made a lasting and inspiring impression on Pensacola’s Logan Boyett.

The defending Faith Chapel Outlaws driver stayed calm, cool and collected despite immense pressure from young Carter Taylor in Friday's race. Boyett led every lap en route to his first 35-lap feature win since last May.

“We came out here (Thursday) night (for practice),” Boyett said, “and I told (his team) that I think we could win. We were a little off in practice, but these guys worked on it.

“We were on the verge of free, but they did a great job to work on the car and get it right.”

Taylor, who seemed glued to Boyett’s bumper all night, finished runner-up and Texan Jared Maupin claimed third.

Boyett executed his strategy to perfection, holding a slight edge against Taylor and forcing him to burn up his stuff in hopes of getting around Boyett.

“We showed up today and had good expectations,” Taylor said. “It was a great race racing against Logan. Everything was clean.”

Maupin collected his second podium finish in as many races this season and continues to be impressed by the level of talent at Five Flags.

“We’re getting better and better,” Maupin said. “This is a stout group. I tried to work my way up, but these guys are just that fast.”

The Dock on Pensacola Beach Sportsmen

One man’s heartbreak turned into another’s bliss Friday at Five Flags Speedway.

The Dock on Pensacola Beach Sportsmen raced an atypical 40 laps in the second leg of the three-race Tri-Track Cruise Quest. The inaugural series combines Five Flags with Montgomery Motor Speedway and Mobile International Speedway, awards higher purses and will send the Quest winner on a cruise for two. If a driver competes in all three races at all three tracks, they will also have a shot to score a cruise.
Parker McDonald appeared to have scored his first win of 2025 until disaster struck a quarter of a lap short of the finish line. McDonald’s demise was James Patrick’s fortune.

Patrick, racing for the first time since the Sportsmen Snowball Derby in December, smushed the rear-end of his No. 11 when he crashed doing celebratory burnouts.

“I’m a little rusty on donuts,” Patrick said with a laugh from Victory Lane. “I’ll get it figured out.

“I hated seeing whatever happened to Parker. I wasn’t going to catch him. He had a good run.”

Chad Robinson had his streak of four straight wins at Five Flags snapped, but still came home with a runner-up finish. McDonald finished third.

“I got hung up on the outside, trying not to burn my tires up,” Robinson said. “I ran outta time. I needed a few more laps. I know everybody is working hard on their stuff, so I’m happy to run second.”

McDonald drove a phenomenal race. He started on the pole after the die-roll invert.

McDonald, wheeling his brand-new, sparkling white with blue trim No. 29, did a masterful job to keep Robinson and Patrick at bay for 39.5 laps.

With the white flag in his rearview, McDonald made his way through Turn No. 1 when he lost power. Patrick and Robinson saw the opportunity and flew by McDonald down the back straightaway.

“We kept losing power,” said McDonald, who was able to refire and secure a podium result. “I feel like I had the race in the bag. We all work on this car every night.”

Lloyd’s Glass Pure Stocks

A strange start turned into a familiar finish Friday night for the Lloyd’s Glass Pure Stocks.

Mason Johnston won his fourth consecutive race at Five Flags Speedway—a stretch that includes the Pure Stocks Snowball Derby victory in December—in the 25-lap feature.

He took over the lead following an early caution and cruised to Victory Lane.

“You know the saying, ‘Drives like a Cadillac,’?” Johnston asked. “I’m gonna have to put a Cadillac logo on this thing, son.”

Connor Odom finished second and Bobby Suarez was third.

Suarez was at the center of a dramatic sequence of events twice Friday. Running second at the time, he raced Caleb Burkett for the lead on Lap 2 when the two got together in Turn No. 4.

Both were sent to the back of the nine-car field for the minor incident, but Burkett took major exception. Under caution, the longtime veteran parked his No. 24 at the start-finish line, climbed on top of his roof and gestured nonsensically at the track tower.

A few laps later, Robert Barber tried to wreck Suarez while under another caution for reasons that were unclear. Perhaps, it was retaliation for Burkett, but it was hard to connect the dots.

“It’s a blessing, to be honest,” Johnston said of avoiding the chaos. “I was worried because there were some fast cars here tonight.

“Thankfully, I avoided the wrecks and moseyed my way to the front. Everybody raced me clean.”

Story & Bleich Roofing Crown Stocks

One would be hard-pressed to find a better show at Five Flags than the ongoing friendly rivalry between the Salter Brothers and Doug Thorpe Jr.

The two routinely battle nose-to-tail, door-to-door in the Story and Bleich Roofing Crown Stocks class and do it without hurt feelings and damaged egos.

The trio were at it again Friday night at the famed half-mile asphalt oval. Adam Salter held Thorpe off by less than a radiator to capture his second straight 25-lap feature. Chris Salter finished third.

“I’ve won a lotta races, been a lotta places,” Adam Salter said. “By far, that’s the (most fun) win I’ve ever had. Racing door-to-door with Doug is awesome.

“I got tight. I knew I had to slow him down a bit getting into the corners. We were kinda just drag racing off (Turn No.) 4 there at the end.”

Adam Salter took the lead after slingshotting his way past Kraig Hall on Lap 7. He quickly had to go on the defense, though, with Thorpe breathing down his neck.

As cautions flew, Adam Salter maintained his lead following each restart while Thorpe searched low and high grooves in his quest to get around Salter.

“Crown Stocks racing is something else,” a giddy Thorpe said. “It’s always fun racing with the Salter Brothers. I can’t think of anybody I’d rather lose to than one of them. We race side-by-side and bump and bang, but it’s always great racing.”
