A.J. Sanders Chasing Win at Goodyear All American Speedway
Mar 24, 2022
JACKSONVILLE, NC – Goodyear All American Speedway will put one of its most exciting divisions front and center on Memorial Day Weekend with the B-52 Bomber Car Battle – which will headline the racing program on Saturday, May 28.
The B-52 Bomber Car Battle will be a 52-lap racing paying $520-to-win and $52-to-start – the richest purse the division has raced for since the rebirth of Goodyear All American Speedway, formerly Coastal Plains Raceway, in July 2021. Because of the distance of the race and the abrasive track surface, the race will have a competition caution at or near halfway to monitor tire wear and allow teams the option to change a tire if they choose to do so.
“The excitement of this race is astronomical,” Hubert driver Eddie Humphrey, who leads the Bomber division standings, said. “Every Bomber car in a 200-mile radius will show up for this event, making it a historic count for a Bomber race. You don’t want to miss this. The payout of $520 will make the racing intense. The fans will be on the edge of their seats the whole race. I know I will be driving my heart out to be in the winner’s circle at the end of this one.”
Humphrey elaborated more on his excitement about the race, saying he could simultaneously watch the race he will be a part of.
“I almost wish I could be in the stands watching it myself, but I’ll just have to live it from the seat,” Humphrey continued. “I wouldn’t miss this one for the world.”

The Bomber division has quickly grown into a fan favorite division at the track due to its affordability and entertainment. Drivers from all over Onslow County, as well as surrounding counties, compete in the class with near barebones stock cars. The division’s rulebook promotes affordability, with safety measures in place as well.
“Depending on your budget and abilities, you can spend anyone from $500-$2,000, depending on the car which is very cheap for the simple fact that racing is involved,” Humphrey stated. “You acquire the car, remove the interior, head and taillights, tempered glass, and take it to the track. There are a few safety features you can add that are recommended.”
Safety requirements include a head-and-neck restraint, with other safety features recommended. The complete rulebook for the Bomber division is available on the Goodyear All American Speedway website.
It’s a very good place to start a racing career,” Humphrey stated. “Even if you’re a seasoned driver but have to stay within a reasonable budget, it’s a very fun and exciting class where most of the drivers are friends away from the track. We all jump in and help one another and want to see everyone do well.”

Some of the notable drivers in the division include Humphrey, who was a championship winning Street Stock competitor to jumping into a Bomber car last year, Wayne Phillips of Hubert, Cornell Williams of Richlands, Brian Gooden of Swansboro, and Duane Walker of Grifton, among others.
“The Bomber class is definitely one of the staples at Goodyear All American Speedway,” track promoter Anthony Goodyear said. “These drivers are all like family, they help each other, and they go out and race and have fun. We really wanted to put on a special event for them, and this idea was presented to us. The B-52 obviously refers to the B-52 Bomber aircraft and using that title for this race allows us to also pay homage to our military community in and around Jacksonville.”
The Memorial Day Weekend race, set for Saturday, May 28, 2022, will also feature Late Models, Street Stocks, Mini Stocks, Legends, and Bandoleros. As part of a Military Appreciation Night, the speedway will have discount rates available for active and retired military and will salute servicemembers who have paid the ultimate sacrifice to provide the freedom we enjoy in the United States during the event.
