Denny Hamlin earned the Xfinity Fastest Lap award for the NASCAR Cup Series Coca-Cola 600, while Justin Allgaier and Corey Heim both added to their collection of fast lap awards.
The three NASCAR National Series were all in action on Memorial Day weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Denny Hamlin earned the Xfinity Fastest Lap award for the NASCAR Cup Series Coca-Cola 600, while Justin Allgaier and Corey Heim both added to their collection of Xfinity Fastest Lap honors.
Denny Hamlin set the fastest lap of the Coca-Cola 600 early in stage three. Hamlin's lap of 29.367 seconds on lap 210 proved to be the quickest of the day. Hamlin led 53 of the race's 400 laps, but a refueling issue on the final green flag pit stop dashed his hopes of winning the crown jewel event.
Hamlin finished 16th, while Ross Chastain drove from last to first for the win. It is Hamlin's second Xfinity Fastest Lap Award of the season, as he also claimed the honor during a dominant victory at Martinsville. He is currently sixth in NASCAR Cup Series points through the first 13 races of the season.
Justin Allgaier collected his fourth Xfinity Fastest Lap award of the NASCAR Xfinity Series season, and second consecutive award, at Charlotte in the BetMGM 300. Allgaier's lap of 30.693 seconds on lap 54 was the fastest of the day.
Allgaier led 103 laps, but finished fourth as William Byron claimed the win. He maintains a 72-point advantage in the NASCAR Xfinity Series championship standings following his ninth top-five finish of the season.
Unsurprisingly, Corey Heim earned Friday's Xfinity Fastest Lap Award in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series North Carolina Education Lottery 200. Heim led 98 of the race's 134 laps, and logged a time of 30.409 seconds while taking the lead on lap 40 for the Xfinity Fastest Lap.
It is Heim's third Xfinity Fastest Lap award of the season, as he also earned the championship bonus point at Martinsville and Rockingham. His points lead over Chandler Smith now sits at 100 points following his win on Friday in the North Carolina Education Lottery 200.
All three NASCAR National Series will again be in action next weekend at Nashville Superspeedway. The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series competes in the Rackley Roofing 200 on Friday, May 30 at 8 p.m. ET.
The NASCAR Xfinity Series takes the track on Saturday, May 31 at 7:30 p.m. ET for the Tennessee Lottery 250. On Sunday, June 1, the NASCAR Cup Series takes center stage for the Cracker Barrel 400 at 7 p.m. ET.
