This week's Throwback Thursday is, in many ways, a glimpse at some of the action we might see this weekend. We highlight road course racing in California, as well as racing at Montgomery Motor Speedway and Hickory Motor Speedway, in this week's edition.

- While the Southern Super Series is at Montgomery Motor Speedway (AL) this weekend it was on this date in 1962 that Red Farmer won a Modified race over a solid field at Montgomery. Donnie Allison was second, Charlie Griffith was third and Bobby Allison was fourth.

THE THIRD TURN: 1962 NASCAR Modified Special at Montgomery Motor Speedway

- In 1974, Cale Yarborough won at Riverside International Raceway (CA). He won both races there in 1974 for two of his three road course wins. Prior to 1974, Yarborough had never finished on the lead lap at Riverside. When the dust settled in 1974, he and Bobby Allison were the only cars on the lead lap.

THE THIRD TURN: 1974 Tuborg 400 at Riverside International Raceway

- In 1984, Tommy Houston won the Busch Series race at Hickory Motor Speedway (NC) on this date. Houston out ran Brad Teague, Ronnie Silver and Sam And as the only cars to complete the 200-lap distance. This weekend, Houston will be back at Hickory for the Jack Ingram Memorial.

THE THIRD TURN: 1984 Yount 200 at Hickory Motor Speedway

- Perhaps one of the most controversial races in NASCAR Cup Series history happened today in 1991. Ricky Rudd, then driving for Hendrick Motorsports, gets into Davey Allison on the final turn at Sonoma. Despite spinning, Allison was awarded the win after Rudd was assessed a five second penalty, dropping him to second.

THE THIRD TURN: 1991 Banquet Frozen Foods 300 at Sears Point Raceway

- In 2001, Hal Goodson won the Pro Cup series race at Myrtle Beach Speedway (SC). After starting on the pole Goodson led 186 of the 250 laps to win over Jason Sarvis, Steven Christian and Mardy Lindley.

THE THIRD TURN: 2001 Jackaroo Sauces 250 presented by Black's Tire at Hickory Motor Speedway
