Denny Hamlin held off Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Chase Briscoe on an overtime restart to win the AutoTrader EchoPark Automotive 400 at Dover Motor Speedway on Sunday.
Despite a red flag of nearly one hour with 14 laps to go due to rain, officials successfully dried the track to complete the 400-lap distance of racing scheduled for Sunday. As fate would have it, more than 400 laps were needed to determine the winner after a pair of late-race incidents.
The first one involved Christopher Bell, who was battling Hamlin for the win before spinning after turn four. That set the stage for Briscoe, who pitted for two fresh tires following the red flag, to restart from the outside of the second row on the first attempt at overtime. Briscoe moved into second before another yellow flag for an incident involving Ryan Preece and Zane Smith.
Briscoe battled Hamlin for the win on the second and final overtime restart, but Hamlin held on for his fourth win of the season, the most among all drivers in the NASCAR Cup Series in 2025.
Briscoe finished second, followed by Alex Bowman, Kyle Larson and Ty Gibbs. Gibbs' fifth-place finish moved him past Tyler Reddick in the NASCAR In-Season Challenge to advance him to the finals, where he'll face Ty Dillon. Dillon finished 20th after receiving the free pass on the final caution, while John Hunter Nemechek was 21st, the first car one lap down.
