Race Results: NASCAR Cup Series Cook Out Southern 500 at Darlington
Sep 4, 2023
Aric Almirola and the No. 10 Smithfield Ford Mustang will have a bit of orange infusion on the paint scheme this weekend at Kansas Speedway as Whataburger will serve as the co-primary sponsor.
As if Aric Almirola's traditional No. 10 Smithfield Ford Mustang paint scheme didn't make you hungry enough, this weekend in the Hollywood Casino 400 at Kansas Speedway, Almirola will pilot a Smithfield car, which will feature iconic fast food restaurant chain Whataburger on the sides of the machine.
As part of the partnership, Almirola will make an appearance at the Whataburger on Parallel Parkway in Kansas City, Kansas on Saturday, September 9th at 2:00 PM local time (Central).
The 39-year-old racer has always had a penchant for running well at the 1.5-mile speedway, as he has seven-career top-10 finishes at the facility. Almirola only has more career top-10 finishes at Richmond (9), Talladega (9), and Martinsville (8).
While Almirola and the No. 10 Stewart-Haas Racing team failed to make the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series Playoff field, the group has not laid over. Almirola scored a solid third-place finish at Daytona International Speedway in the regular-season finale, and the team followed that effort up with a 14th-place finish this past weekend in the Cook Out Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway.
In the Southern 500, Almirola suffered massive damage to the nose of his Ford Mustang in Stage 2, but he and the team kept after it and salvaged a solid 14th-place finish.
After the race, Almirola gave credit to his pit crew for firing off great pit stops all race long.
Now, Almirola and the No. 10 team will look to score their first victory of the 2023 season, as they carry some decent momentum into one of Almirola's best tracks.
If they can do so, they'll carry Smithfield and Whataburger to Victory Lane with them.
The NASCAR Cup Series Hollywood Casino 400 at Kansas Speedway is set for Sunday, September 10th at 3:00 PM ET. The race will be carried live on USA Network. The radio broadcast of the event will be provided by the Motor Racing Network (MRN) and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
