Byron Headlines First Look at the Clyde Hart Memorial Entry List
Feb 11, 2023
Qualifying for the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour season opener at New Smyrna Speedway was cancelled due to rain, which interrupted the single-car time trial session after 29 cars had completed times.
With the starting lineup for Saturday night's 200-lap race set based on 2022 NWMT owner points, Doug Coby will start on the pole in the No. 7NY for 2022 owner's champion Tommy Baldwin. Jon McKennedy will join Coby on the front row, last year's champion in the driver standings.
At the time rain arrived, Ronnie Williams was fastest in qualifying. However, with the lineup set by the rulebook, he will instead start 30th. Similarly, last year's winner in this event, Matt Hirschman, will start 17th. He was one of the handful of drivers who had not been on track before the rain interrupted qualifying, by virtue of setting fast time in final practice.
As soon as the track is ready to go, racing will begin with the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour feature. Stay tuned to Racing America's social platforms for updates.
Chase Johnson was fastest in Pro Late Model qualifying, with a time of 18.345 seconds. Ryan Luza will start on the pole after a three-car invert. Matthew Green set quick time for the Sportsmen, scheduled to race for 50 laps.
