Jaxon Bishop has caught fire late in the Modifieds of Mayhem Tour season, winning his second straight event on Saturday night at Montgomery Motor Speedway.
In the series' last event, Bishop took a brand-new race car to victory lane at Five Flags Speedway. After the race, he stated his desire to claim the victory in the year-end Modified event on Snowball Derby weekend at the Pensacola half-mile.
That car made the trip to Montgomery on Saturday for the Fall Brawl 50 and proved just as fast. Bishop took the lead on the 13th lap of the event and won by nearly five seconds over Richie Smith.
While Bishop was the fastest driver in the field on Saturday, he quickly gave the credit to his father and the fast race car he built.
"It's not the driver," said Bishop in victory lane. "It's all my dad. The fact that he built us this race car and we're doing this right now, it just proves a lot to him. He never got this chance that I have right now. He definitely could have done a whole lot better than me."
Smith made his first-ever trip to Montgomery and his second Modifieds of Mayhem Tour start of 2025. The Florida driver qualified second, but the redraw placed him seventh in the starting lineup, giving him quite the uphill climb to finish in the runner-up spot.
"Congrats to them guys," said Smith. "We ain't ever been here before. Yesterday, we got here, didn't really know what to expect. We qualified second, put ourselves in a hole starting seventh. We just got too tight there. I think we burned the right-front off of it."
Jared Maupin continues to impress in limited appearances with the Modifieds of Mayhem Tour. A runner-up earlier in the year at Five Flags, Maupin finished third in the Fall Brawl 50 for his second podium finish and third top-five in three starts with the series in 2025.
"We had a good hot rod," said Maupin. "I just tried to be as clean as I can, without moving anybody. Definitely had a good hot rod. Just wish I could have capitalized a little better."
Ander Jackson finished fourth, with Hunter Evans rounding out the top five.
The Modifieds of Mayhem return to Montgomery on October 18 to crown a series champion. The series will then head to Five Flags Speedway on December 5 for the non-points finale as part of Snowball Derby weekend.
