George Skora, III continued his hot streak to end the 2025 Race of Champions Sportsman Modified season, winning the Shootout at The BullRing at Wyoming County Speedway.
Skora won the last three races of the season - the George Decker Memorial at Holland Speedway, the ROC Weekend 75 at Lake Erie Speedway, and then Saturday's Shootout at The BullRing - to snag a Triple Crown bonus from the Race of Champions. Meanwhile, Andrew Lewis, Jr. secured the 2025 series championship with an eighth-place finish.
Skora led every from green flag to checkered flag in the 75-lap season finale, benefitting from a friendly pre-race redraw. He entered the race as the only driver with more than one win on the season, and capped it off with his third consecutive win.
"If you had told me at the beginning of the year when we built this car that I was going to win all three of these races this year, I would have told you that you were nuts with the competition in this class," said Skora. "We found something with it and just dialed in. We got good drive off.
"I want to thank all my competitors for leaving number one in there for me [at the redraw]. That was awfully nice of them, especially when we come from a track that draws 16. Super happy to be back at Wyoming County, 15 years, I think it's been. I don't think I forgot how to get around."
Meanwhile, Andy Lewis, Jr. overcame a late spin to finish eighth, enough to secure this year's ROC Sportsman Modified championship. The title made for an emotional celebration for the young driver.
"It feels good. After losing Tony [Hanbury] a couple of weeks ago, this is for him," said Lewis. "I'm sorry I'm crying. I just have to thank everybody here. I don't know what to say.
"The other week, we probably put 80 hours in the shop. I was there from six in the morning until 10 at night working on the thing.
While it was a celebratory occasion for Lewis, Jr., Kevin Timmerman's runner-up finish came with the taste of disappointment. After a last-lap spin following contact with Jimmy Zacharias at Lake Erie relegated him to a 16th-place finish in that event, the 2024 series champion was unable to erase the deficit created ahead of the finale.
"We had a good car today," said Timmerman. "Normal redraw, started 11th or 12th like all year. I don't really know what to say. We should be the champion, right?
"We've come from the back every freaking week this year. We should be repeat champions and we're not, because of a dumbass."
Despite the disappointment, Timmerman tipped his cap to Lewis, Jr. and championed the quality of competition in the series.
"Congrats to Andy [Lewis, Jr.]. We've run clean and good all year," said Timmerman. "It's probably the most disappointed I've been, maybe ever.
"I don't know if people understand, this is one of probably the toughest series in the Northeast. There's a lot of guys that have all run Modifieds forever. Any of the top 15 can win on any given night."
Lee Sharpsteen rounded out the podium in Saturday's race.
"It was eventful, for sure," said Sharpsteen. "Nick Robinson did a good job spotting for me. Made it through all the carnage and kind of were right there at the end. I don't really have any complaints."
Mason Hanel finished fourth, with Ricky Knapp, Jr. completing the top five.
While the ROC Sportsman Modified season is complete, the Race of Champions returns to action next weekend at Thompson Speedway. The Race of Champions 150 is part of Saturday, October 11's card during the Sunoco World Series of Speedway Racing at Thompson. Fans can watch that event live on RacingAmerica.TV.
