Bryce Miller’s busy spring on and off the track has resulted in him taking a narrow point lead over Derek Gluchacki at the end of the Kulwicki Driver Development Program’s opening segment.

Miller leads Gluchacki by a mere 9.4 points.

This spring, Miller, who spends six to seven hours developing setups for his race car, recorded two top-10 finishes in four races.

Miller’s other activities included:

  • Launching the Bryce Miller Development Program, mentoring 14-year-old Austin Warner in the Midwest Truck Series.
  • Serving as a driver coach and mentor at a Jefferson (Wis.) Speedway Legends camp.
  • Co-hosting the podcast “Droppin’ the Tailgate” which updates his listeners on his activities in the KDDP and his future plans.
  • Driving Luke Fenhaus’ short-track car at an event that the 2021 KDDP winner was unable to attend.

Miller’s community projects have been numerous as well.

  • With assistance from his sponsor, Miller gave an American flag to every fan who entered Jefferson Speedway and collected donations for the Jefferson American Legion.
  • He contacted Oregon area fire and EMS personnel to review emergency procedures and appropriate medical responses for a driver who has been in an accident during a race. He demonstrated how first responders can assist a driver in an emergency, including operating the driver’s safety belts.
  • At John Muir Elementary School, he had a meet-and-greet, sharing pizza with the Boy Scout Lions Den members. Each one also got to sit in Miller’s race car.
  • He visited Kenwood Leadership Academy in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, in advance of the area’s July race. The children had never seen a race car. One child with a brittle bone disease had always dreamed of being a race car driver. Miller let him sit in his race car. After the event, he received a text from the child’s mother that read: “Aww thank you very much for giving him the chance to experience being in a race car. He has always said that’s his dream.”

“Whenever I go to an event, I share a Kulwicki story that I’ve been told. I like sharing his Underdog mentality and how he did everything his way,” Miller said.

Miller didn’t hesitate to think outside the box during the program’s first segment. He found the NASCAR Winston Cup Scene issue commemorating Alan Kulwicki, took a photo of himself reading the issue while wearing Kulwicki’s championship cap, and posted it on Facebook. He described the photo as “really popular.”

This year, members of Kulwicki’s 1992 NASCAR Cup championship team are mentoring the five “Underbirds.” Miller’s mentor is Danny Cameron.
